I just took delivery of a 2001 360 6 speed and I was driving Yesterday and had to fight to get into 2nd gear, when it was impossible I had to push it into 3rd. Then today I had no problem at all. The transmission was smooth as silk. Anybody have any similar problems, or knows of a solution???

Marc... The gearbox oil on Ferraris typically needs some time to warm up, thus making it difficult to shift into second...

With that said, i once had a problem with second in a 360 and i thought the car was thoroughly warmed up...

get it looked at ASAP..I have sent a few 360's back to the dealer for this issue while they were still under warrenty, the transmissions had to be replaced, not trying to scare you, but this has been my experiance

While Ferraris used to have the reputation of not going into 2nd gear until the oil warms up (happens on my Dino all the time), the 360's do not suffer from this problem. I have been out in 20 degree weather and my 360 shifts into 2nd immediately. Mine is also a 2001 6 speed, and i've had it since new.

Definitely have it looked at ASAP. Before you do anything have someone who knows what they are doing change the gear oil. Use an independent shop for the reasons below. Then see if the problem is cured.

Do you have an extended warranty?

FYI- if you don't have an extended warranty you can buy one from Ferrari within 60 days of your original warranty termination. If your '01 was delivered sometime in '02 you may still have a window. It's $6,000 for 1 year, $9,000 for 2 years, not cheap, but probably cheaper than a new tranny. In any event, if you can and decide to get one, they do a compression test and check the car over. So get a definitive answer from an independent shop, and if you think it may lead to long term problems try and buy a warranty from your closest dealer.

Also check to see if any service bulletins or updates were issued by Ferrari NA on any tranny problems. You may be able to get it fixed for free. And make sure all service updates (there were a few) have been done to the car.

I 've been driving the for the past two days and have not had any problems with 2nd gear. I'm just curious if it was just tempermental that day or not. I'll keep driving and see what happens. Any other input???

    Thanks

I had a new 2001 manual 6 speed. It was an early MY2001. Mine wouldn't shift into any gear. The problem was the o-rings in the transmission. It took 6 weeks of the car being in the shop before the problem was diagnosed. I can't remember if Ferrari recalled the cars or just sent a TSB to the dealers. But the o-rings were changed in future cars. If the car hadn't been under warranty it would have been a very expensive fix. The o-rings were just a couple of dollars but the labor to open the tansmission and replace the o-rings was expensive.

Mine is a late my2001 purchased in Jan 02. The original owner said that he some minor issues that were fixed and hadn't had any problems since.
