The 360 I see as a''Revolution''in the design of Ferrari cars, but only aesthetically, not mechanically.
I prefer the Rear of Front 360 and 430, and looking for picture, I prefer the 430 than the 458,.

for me the 458 was love at first sight, but in all honesty I don't think it will age well.

For me, the 360 has proven that its design ages well; loved it since first sight.

The 430 to me seems to be designed to be aggressive, so the lines do not flow as well if I can be honest. Terms like cool, hot, wicked....etc fits well, but would be pushing it to call it "a beauty".

As for the 458, I wouldn't know until I see a real one. Call me crazy, but I always thought the side profile shapes like a R8; and thats not exactly a compliment when a Ferrari looks like an Audi (R8 is a beauty, but it is still an Audi).

In flesh, the 360 always looks better to me, compared to the F430. I haven't seen the 458 in flash yet, but it does look beautiful, with agressive lines in pictures i have seen.

The hardtop will fold in half and go vertically between the seats and the engine. I think it may be another reason why there is no stick shift in the car. All controls are fly-by-wire.

My thinking is that it will look more like a retractable Targa than a true convertible. The location of the engine intake scoops will dictate that the profile will be something like the topless Bugatti.

ferrari have been the masters of the disappearing hard top for years!. Take a look at this from "Magnum P.I" : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AVhqm4a-S08

If they could do that back then, the 458 spider should be no problem!. :D

Ah, I always loved that slide across the grass which was in the title sequence so I got to see it every week. That's probably where I fell in love with Ferrari. Although I don't remember the patented Ferrari Disposable Roof!

I used to make sure I was on the right channel well ahead of the programme starting to make sure I didn't miss it!.

I believe the roof was an incredibly expensive option as it required a new roof panel everytime it was operated! :D

That is a CLASSIC. I don't know how many times I saw that clip in opening of the show and never realized it was all fake!

I'll give Mr Selleck credit where it's due, he did control the power slide nicely, especially with that tricky transition from grass to tarmac. :D

I'm convinced that that weekly opening scene from "Magnum P.I." was responsible for more Ferrari sales at the time than any factory promotional material. It put Ferrari on the mainstream US automotive map, and is probably the main reason behind the myth, still believed today by many people who are not knowledgeable about Ferrari, that "all Ferraris are painted red by the factory." When the show debuted, I had already owned my first Dino about 4 1/2 years, but I was still obligated to watch the show, hoping to see some exciting Ferrari action scenes. Some TV shows you just don't forget that easily! The same goes for "The Persuaders," in which Tony Curtis drove a Dino coupe and Roger Moore drove an Aston-Martin. Fred

I have to say I remember seeing adverts for the show and thinking I have to see this show. In addition to the opening scene which is a classic. I remember watching a clip from above as Magnum drove it over a mountain road. It was just so cool. I was already a big fan of cars and Ferraris by the time the show came out, but as it has been said it sure helped keep the passion growing.

In regards to the question of looks 360 vs F430 vs 458. As the 308 / 328 looked so terrific to me and then the 348 came out and I did not like it at all. I was so very disappointed with the design change. Then of course Ferrari went back to tradition a little with the F355. The F355 got me back interested in Ferraris and I will never forget my first drive (test drive) in one. I knew long before we got back to the dealer that I wanted one.

When the 360 was released I so as with the 348 did not like the design / look. And even in person it just did not inspire me to want one the way the 308 / 328 and F355 did. The F430 was a different matter. I don't know if it is I had gotten more used to the change in design or if it seems to me the F430 was just right.

When I first say pictures of the 458. The design appealed to me for the most part there were a few things I was not sure about, but having seen the car in person it looks terrific to me. And as I have mentioned on the other treads I was not happy about no gated shifter, but after looking at the specs and reading numerous sources and seeing the different videos. I am ready for the future and I do believe the moment I get to drive one I will want to drive it straight home. The 458 is going to a great step forward for Ferrari and for those of us that love the mid-engine V-8 Ferraris.

As many have said and it holds true here beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Some designs seem to be timeless.

    Cheers,

For some reason the fact that you actually clearly saw it was Tom doing the sliding made it all the more interesting. Guess it kind of made it real.

I saw a special on Magnum PI one time (A&E Channel I think). The said they had planned to use a Porsche 928 for his car but Tom had a hard time fitting into it because of his height, plus they wanted the open air camera angles. The studio requested a Targa version of the 928 and Porsche said, "umm, no."
