Hello Everyone, I currently own a '97 355 Spider and I am looking forward to trade for either a 360 Spider or a Lamborghini Diablo, can someone explain the PROS and CONS for each vehicle? is the 360 as painful to mantain as the 355? I heard the major concern on the Diablo is the clutch... Thanks, 355Blue
2 totally diffrent cars,i have owned a diablo vt and currently have a 360.you need to drive both vehicles, the diablo is a monster compared to the 360,both are relaiable.have fun with your decision, imo if i was going for a diablo it would be 94 and up years ,the best year is 01 6.0
360 is more reliable, cheaper to repair and maintain, easier to drive. There are thousands of 360s produced, much easier to find a good one. Diablo almost falls into the supercar category. Hand built, 12 cylinders, much wider and heavier then a 360. It is tall geared, so the clutch needs pampering on take offs, if driven properly it will last as long as a 360, Mechanically most everything is stuffed in the engine bay at the point of no return, so engine out is a common occurrence. As for popularity contest, I think its a no brainier, Diablo steels the show every time.
I must be the voice of dissent. I disagree with choosing the Diablo mainly to "steal the show". I don't want to be part of that show. I got a real close look at one beside me at the traffic light a few months ago. I do not care for the styling at all. It is just too "out there" IMO. The 360 has a classic design that will be popular for quite some time. If you want a "look at me" car, by all means get the diablo. It will beat the 360 every time.
here is my opinion to the Ferrari vs. Lambo debate I'm new to the exotic car game, so take it as you will. If you want class, heritage, the F1 background, then Ferrari is the obvious choice between the two if you want flash, attention and jaw dropping WOW appeal, then go with a Lambo both are balls out fast, fun as hell to drive and a ***** to maintain. but depending on what ELSE you are trying to get out of the car. I went with a 360 just due to the price and the reason stated above.
So, FWIW, I was at Concorso Italiano a few years back and sat down next to this guy who worked for Lamborghini as a tech. We were looking at the Diablos and Countachs and I told him what beautiful cars they were. Since I was starting to think about getting an exotic and, looking out over the Lambos, I asked his opinion which one. He told me I should get a Ferrari! I was rather surprised so I asked him why. He told me that they break down far less often. Again, FWIW.
I wanted a Diablo 6.0 bad. Real bad. I drove a few, asked a billion questions and schemed as to how I was going to git me one without the wife having a sh*# fit. It handled as expected, just like a bull. One mechanic I trust said that they are hard to work on and are at their best when parked in the garage (ouch). Then I saw a 2004 360. Took her out for a spin and found that it was a sublime experience to drive her. Such a precision feel. I could imagine going 160 around the track and knew I'd be in full control. Not so with the bull. The 360 is newer technology all around. The belt changes don't require the engine to be pulled. The purchase price was lower than the Diablo. Id doesn't eat clutches. So, I bought the Ferrari and I love it. But, if I had the space and some extra cash, I'd run right out and buy that Diablo as well. It's rough but man oh man, bull riding is a pure adrenaline rush and who doesn't like to get thrown around once in a while. Just my two cents.
I am new to this board but can answer a few questions about the Diablo. I own a 1997 Roadster with 16,000KM on the meter. The car is truly a bull and is very torque and acceleration biased. The car is an absolute delight to pitch around a track, but it has its limitations based on its viscous track system. I find the Ferraris that I have test driven to be much lighter and precise, but do not have the "balls to the wall" feel of a Lambo. The Lambo is not cheap to maintain - I drive mine about 3K miles per year and spend about that amount on it every year to keep up. (And I haven't had to do a clutch yet!). As to attention, it is like dating a porn star. You get a lot of attention, at lot of which is rather awkward. (People asking what you do, what team you play for, how you made your money, BS like that.) The Diablo is an awesome car and probably a great SECOND car to have in your livery. As to everyday driveability I am looking for a F430 roadster. FWIW Bill
I don't (and have never) owned any of them. I've driven a Diablo VT Roadster and sat in a 360 Spider. The 360 was MUCH more comfortable than the Diablo. The 360 had a lot more leg-room as well. When I drove the Diablo, I noticed that it took a LOT of effort to shift gears (both with the clutch pedal and the gear shift itself). I've ridden in a Challenge Stradale and even that is more comfortable than the Diablo. IMO, the 360 sounds 10x better as well. Whatever your choice may be, enjoy the hell out of it. -G.B.
