I really love this forum, and its times like these where I really need your expertise. My water pump is leaking fluid from the backside of the water pump housing.

Mechanic replaced the heat exchanger December 2023. In January, the water pump went out. He replaced it, along with thermostat. Now I’ve paid him $24k.

1,000 miles and 6 months later, the water pump is leaking from the bottom of the water pump housing (see photos), between the crankcase and the water pump. I called him and he can’t get me in until May. I’m a bit upset, but he said he would inspect it if I removed the pump. I took it to him and he said it was fine.

So I reinstalled it with a new rubber gasket, and it is leaking again.

The silicone hoses connecting to the heat exchanger and the coolant reservoir on the backside of the housing looked healthy and dry. No leaks there. The snap ring on the back was dry. The impeller looked great, and the pulley has no play.

Does anyone have any idea of what I might be missing before I take everything apart again?

Disregard. It was just leftover coolant dripping down from the bleeder valve. I just didn’t think it would continue to drip for 15 hours.

I started the car up tonight and ran it for 20 minutes. No leaks. The system is pressurized and I have the system bled and everything is bone dry.

Moral of the story…if I have always been able to maintain my German cars for the past 25 years, I can maintain an Italian (with the workshop manual and this great forum).

Your mechanic got quite the fancy dinner for his time.

Aside from that, glad you were able to get it resolved.
