Does anyone know what is the best filler for welding a 360 frame? I searched and found one post from 6 years ago but they did not seem to have a definitive answer. Has anyone figured it out in the last few years? Thanks.

I think Alcoa might be able to tell you what the frame material is. Would that help?
Maybe someone has an SAE account to see if its mentioned in here.

Thanks. I've read somewhere that it was 6000 series alloys but nothing specific and nothing on the filler used. I have a place that says they can do the frame work for me. They were wondering if I could get them what the filler was that Ferrari used so they could match it if possible. I'm going to give them some of the parts car frame to do a few welds on and check what works best for them. They can do penetration dye tests and x-ray on site to check the welds.
I'd still like to know what Ferrari used though if anyone knows.

What are you welding? How do you plan to stress-relieve the welds when you're done? An aluminum car chassis isn't patio furniture.

Al 6061-T6 alloy for the frame material. An experienced welding facility --- search internet for ones who specialize in aircraft repair --- should be able to recommend the best filler, specs, etc. for you to use.

Contact Lincoln Welding in Cleveland Ohio. They are experienced in all forms of welding. Carl Hoze goes to the 24 H. Daytona and Indy car racing and weld repairs for the teams out of product support for Lincoln. He has repaired things for Ferrari and other top teams that there mechanics couldn't fix.

Yeah, I know it's not patio furniture that's why I'm not doing it. I've never even tried to weld aluminum. I'm taking it to a place with welders that have so many certifications they could have probably welded on the space shuttle. They mostly do aircraft.

I'm having them put a front frame on a 360 from the shock towers forward. So nothing between the wheels just the front of the car. They are building the jig off the donor car now (well hopefully they start Monday).

Thanks everyone for the replies and leads. I know they can figure out what to use easy enough I just thought it would be easier to ask if someone knew.
