In these discussions I often read about an alarm battery (alarm horn battery?). What is this? Where is it? How often does it have to be (should it be) replaced so that the car doesn't refuse to start?

    Any information greatly appreciated.

There is a logical fallacy to your question : how can you read the discussions and not see the information you require

The car has an alarm - the alarm has a horn - the horn has a battery

It's the battery which powers the alarm horn ;-)
It's built into the alarm unit which resides in the left-hand boot area near the firewall. There's an access panel under the boot lid just in front of the windshield.
    Typically every 4-5 years.
The car does not refuse to start when the alarm battery dies. The horn simply refuses to sound and you get a red warning light on the 4-switch drivers pannel.

The term to use to find most of the threads is alarm siren. There is a rechargeable battery in the siren so the system still has power if someone cuts the battery cable (difficult on a 360/430). That battery tends to go bad, especially on the earlier sirens, and can leak and destroy the circuitry in the siren. The siren costs about $330 from Ferrari, and there is a GM replacement for less than $100, but it has been difficult to find lately.

Search and there are numerous threads on the subject. Here it is. Whoops, looks like they just went up $30 or so. Some owners have fitted external batteries to replace the internal battery.

Curt- We did the same thing for Fiorano Handling Package springs for the 575M. Built up so much demand they sold out of the NOS, similar HGTC springs at ~$250 each and had to have a new batch made. Unfortunately the new ones cost ~$900 each. Hopefully that will not happen with the GM sirens, but note the $30 increase on the Ferrari sirens.

This thread seems appropriate for me to re-ask for help in solving my alarm problem. I have asked for help previously.

I have installed the GM Corvette alarm module and all is well apart from the red LED still being permanently on when driving. All alarm module functions are good apart from this annoying permanently on LED.

    Suggestions please???
