My guess would be one of the microswitches in the door is sticking... specifically in the stricker plate.. Same thing happened in my boxster.. turned out to be the switch in the striker plate to tell the car that the door is closed.

I had this EXACT problem two weeks ago. It drove me crazy trying to figure it out.

Then, I figured, what the heck, try the old computer help desk method: reboot.

So I turned the ignition on for 30 seconds, turned it off. Then started the car. Problem solved, and it has not returned.

I have no idea what casued it nor what really fixed it.

Did you ever figure out what the problem was on your 360? Mine is doing the same thing now after sitting for a while it won't trigger the UP or DOWN when opening the door but the windows work fine otherwise.

My drivers window would stop working intermittently. Turned out that the vibrations in the door loosened the wire connection and just needed to be tighten.

During the hit or miss process of diagnosing the problem, I learned about a number of microswitches
and the window control ECU under the dash to the left of the LHD steering wheel.

You can test the microswitches by lifting the external and internal door handles since this will trigger the window to descend an inch to allow you to open and close the door. If the window does not descend it will be more difficult to open and impossible to close the door (you have to get out and close the door from the outside by bending the window into the upper sill/ seal and then shove the door).

The window ECU will make a audible click which you can feel if you place your hand on the unit with every command to open or close. This ECU is expensive so hope it ain't the problem.

The wiring harness is pretty strong. You can check the connection at the door jam but usually it's not the problem.

Finally rebooting the system by Turning on and off the power can clear out some errors

Seems like it may be a microswitch issue but it seems odd that both would fail at the same time. Both windows go up and down fine with the buttons every single time but neither will drop or raise when the doors are opened.

I've had the system off several times lately...Just finished a clutch install on Saturday so unfortunately rebooting isn't helping. I'm going to pull a door panel off and check things out in there. Is there a way to test the microswitches or just assume they don't work if lifting the door handle doesn't trigger the windows down? Also, there seems to be a door microswitch and a window microswitch...do they both need to be relpaced? Thanks for your help...Andy.

I don't think you need to take apart the door.

You might want to look at the internal door handle. I think if you lift it up you can see the microswitch. Go to Ricambi and look for a diagram showing the part.

If you want to take apart the internal door handle you can do this by loosening a few screws. Lift up on the handle and you will see a black philips head. If you lift the black leather covered facade in front of the handle ( don't worry just double stick tape holding it in place) you will find another screw.

The microswitches are relatively cheap to replace. Many times they just get dust and dirt which foul the contacts.

Does the passenger external door handle and internal door handle activate the windows?

No, neither handle on the passenger side activates the windows either...that's the strange thing...both passenger and driver windows worked fine and then all stopped working with the door handles and such but they go up down with the switches no problem.

Ok, I see on the diagram at Ricambi there is a microswitch for the inner handle and outer handle for each door....it's starting to make more sense now. So I'll see if I can get 1 to work and go from there. Right now the windows on both doors don't move when trying to open or close the doors. So maybe all 4 went bad?

No all four did not go bad. (Just my guess). But maybe just one is stuck and that is telling the ECU that the window is open already.
