OK. I've had the car for 2 days and have a small crack in the windshield from driving it last night. Is a normal window replacement company ok or do I need a more specialized shop for it?

Kind of interesting topic... During my PPI Ferrari of Newport beach recommended windshield replacement due to "sandblasting". $5K... Laughable.

In South Carolina, your insurance has to cover a new windshield installation. At least for regular cars.

It has a big sweet Ferrari Logo on it so do not hurt the value of your car by using a non OEM part....hence the 5K. You might find onr on used market.

It's a really small chip. I think I'll try to have it repaired. It's up high on the passenger side.

Changing the windshield is a pretty big deal on that. If you can live with a repair for the time being that's what I would do.

Brian is it because it is such a large part?

Dealer replaced mine after a large stone hit right in the drivers view causing a "humongous" chip. Insurance company paid most of it. Wasn't cheap here in Austin: $6k. Dealer I'm sure added its premium charge but they had one in stock.
The insurance company didn't argue one bit as they said it was an exotic. The fit was OEM too. I've replaced several porsche windshields and was less than happy with companies like safelight.

Few seem to be able to get the trim fit correct

Parts, tax and shipping are going to be very close to $5 g's. Glass installers justifiably charge big to install an expensive glass in an expensive car.

The really good glass shop I had won't touch an exotic anymore. I offered to pay them double and they turned me down. Said it just isn't worth the liability and aggravation. Too much easy glass work available, no need to take high exposure stuff.

Heck I had a glass shop refuse to install a windscreen on a 64 TR4 I was restoring -- maybe because I supplied the glass.
Play it safe and take it to a Ferrari dealer. With 16k miles on your car Mike I'm sure you have a lot of rash. If you look through it with the sun shining you will see it. Perhaps a good opportunity to get a new one. I had an M3 that had a lot of road rash and when I got a small chip I got it replaced. Here in NC there is no deductible on windscreens.

I've got a call into the insurance company. The glass shop in town said they should easily be able to repair it. The glass said not to drive it because it could crack. If the insurance guy says they replace them, I'm taking the car out.

Ferrari dealer here calls a glass company to do their cars. About 5 years ago the windshield alone for my stradale was $3700.

Not sure I would trust a local glass shop with a $5000 windscreen. I would call FCI in Charlotte and ask them. They will pick up your car. Who are you insured with? Allstate does not have a deductible for windscreen replacement. Whatever you decide make sure you get a genuine Ferrari screen and not an aftermarket one. Also the radio antenna is apparently fiddly to get connected.

If you do replace the screen I would take the opportunity, while it is out, to de-sticky the vents up there!

My vents just disintegrated when I tried getting them out. And the dash needs to be pulled to reattach them. So I just dropped them in the holes for now.

I would rather an experienced windshield vendor install a new glass. They would be much more experienced at getting it in properly. The best body shop I know calls the glass guy to do that job. Definitely OEM glass.
