360 would not go into gear

Just thought I'd pass this. Have owned my 03 F1 for quite some time and never ran into this before. First clue was cleaning the car this past week. Have one of the rarer options being spare tire so was adjusting etc. Was going for a ride with the wife on this beautiful Fl. day and the car would not shift into first nor reverse. I noted that the auto display came up ,but never have used auto. The sport mode also was displayed. After reading and trying about everything, I called Tampa Ferrari and the service manager helped sort the problem. The key was that an alarm sounded each attempt to put the car into reverse and 1st. Apparently there is a switch in the trunk and the engine lid that prevents gear engagement if not fully closed properly.

 

Don't understand. I thought when coming to a stop pull back on both up and down at the same time. Why is that hard on the tranny?
