Out of curiousity, has anyone raced a 360C in a series other than the Ferrari Challenge? I believe 360Cs have run in a southeastern series. SCCA seems to require some sort of bizarre restrictor plate ....

    cheers, will

SCCA would probably make the challenge car run in GT1 where it would get destroyed. GT1 is old GrandAm cars.....about 2400lbs and 800hp.

NO, 360 Challenge runs in Touring 1 based on 2002 Challenge rules I believe. Everything equal to Challenge rules, except SCCA legal cage required and tires must be DOT.

Might be a half way competitive car from a handling standpoint, but would be out powered by the Z06 and SRT-10.

360 C would win for costs to operate though! My money would be on the Z06 and SRT-10 on the podium still.

You mean Trans-Am? You are right on the power though. This year Trans-Am got smart and made it easier for GT1 cars to race in TA, like the old days. Guess Paul needed to get the numbers up as everyone has been leaving for World Challenge and Grand Am.

Oops my Typo. Meant trans am.
I'm pretty sure a 360challenge car would be in GT1 (limited production race car). The Porsche GT3 Cup car is in GT2 (just moved from GT1). The stock 360 Modena would be in T1, along with the GT3 Street Car. The GT3 street car does pretty well, but unfortunately T1 is almost a spec Vette class. With the new Z06, not much else will stand a chance in that class. 1st year a SRT10 will be racing in it though, so should be interesting. In my opinion though don't go into T1 expecting to win, Heinrechy (sp?) is a lock....

Rob, TCS 17 is where I found the throttle restrictor requirement. The cage rule probably is enough to keep me away. SCCA weight is 2825 pounds - isn't that heavy for a 360C?

Anyway, I'm more curious about series that will accept the stock 360C cage. If I find something, I'll post it.

In Grand Am the only Ferrari that can be campaigned is the 360 Challenge Car. That is in the 2005 GT class rules.

NASA - Mark McKenize and I will be going head to head in 355 C's tomorrow and Sunday at MSR. His car is SCCA T1 legal, while mine is FIA. I'll be announcing a partnership and Ferrari racing series with NASA shortly.

    Will,

It's not the weight that will make the car uncompetitive but the restrictor. I can't remember if it was Wide World of Cars or Miller Motorcars, but someone at the Glen was telling me that a customer was interested in SCCA but once they ran the car on the dyno with the restrictor the car lost 32 hp.

    No way a 360 C with 200 extra pounds and 380 hp will beat a Z06.

    Regards,

    Jon

Jon, 32 hp, ouch. Thanks for the info.

Rob, bring it a little East, will you - Barber? Sebring?

Bob, I've seen the Grand Am cars, but that's probably more than I'd want to take on.

    Thanks all for the replies.

Had a great weekend. I'm a little worn out now racing two classes.

Mark McKenzie was having problems with his newly purchased T1 355 C, so I didn't get to run with him. We had 28 cars in the group that was mostly NASA American Iron, but some cool cars like a T1 Z06, STi, and 300 HP or so *****in Miata. I'll post full results later.

I missed Saturday qualifying because I was working on the SRX7 and installing new belts in the Challenge. Started race back row 28th and finished in around 4th place. It was a blast moving through the field in a 25 minute race. Those cheap AI cars didn't think I would stick a Ferrari fender into them, but I did! They would pull me down the straight and I would late brake them or cut inside as they pushed around the corner.

Sunday morning I qualified 2nd overall behind the Z06. I dropped my best MSR time to 1:22.4, but the Z06 was down to 1:20's. How many heat cycles can slicks take? These were old Grand Am slicks and I ran them 2 days at Laguna and 1 day testing at MSR? So at least 12 cycles before this weekend even started.

The AI boys like to do standing starts because of all their torque. Saturday was rolling and I didn't find out about the standing until we were on grid Sunday. Needless to say I wasn't thrilled about this! At least I was in front row, but I knew if I stalled the car or had another problem that I would get pounded because of the fields inexperience.

Anyway, reved to 4k, dropped the clutch at green and you wouldn't believe it, but I blew away the entire field of the pole Z06 and 15 400-600 HP AI cars behind me! I wasn't much for door to door racing yesterday, so I fell in line behind about 3-4 cars. I finished 2nd or 3rd overall as the Z06 dropped out and another car got black flagged.

Anyway, a fun weekend! NASA is really interested in working with us on getting Ferraris out.

Side note, I finished 2nd of 15 each day in SRX7 which is probably my last weekend in that class. :(
