I have a 2002 360M F1 with 6k miles and was thinking of buying a 360 Spider when a new 360CS (same MSRP as Spider) was offered. Figured that the 360 replacement is at least 12-24 months off...so

    1. What is a good trade in value for my car
    2. Is the CS manageable on the road..I drive mine a reasonable amount
    3. Do you think the CS will ever be 'collectable'

    thanks

I was told they are only making around 800 worldwide (can someone confirm?), which is a lot less than the say the F40 (1300) which is very collectable and seems to have held value very well (in the UK).

However the 360CS does not have the same landmark significance as the F40, and I reckon they will get traded around a fair bit, used and abused properly on the track. Here in the UK, I reckon, the prices will immediately come down from sticker(150,000ish) to around 120,000 pounds, then stick around this price for a while. I don't reckon they will command a premium, simply because the target market is limited and people are already thinking about the 360 replacement.

Great car however, and I'll defineately consider going for one in the future.

    Just my thoughts..

So far there have only been a couple of CS's for sale and they have comanded at least full list. I don't think the car will be collectable like an F40 btu will probably do far better than the 360M and may well keep it's price when the new car is released if that car isn't in the traditional Ferrari mould so to speak. The CS does have a more limited appeal but it is a limited car with only around 80 ever being sold in the UK, so I'm led to belive.

As for teh car's use on the raod everybody, without exception, has commented on how usable the car is in the everyday situation. This is not the same as the GT3 and such like track cars which can be a real pain if you just want a drive out. The 360 CS is a really good Ferrari and will remain so

The CS was an opportunity not to be missed although a new Spider has its appeal.

Do you know how reliable the CS has been?

There is no reason it shouldn't be just as reliable as a standard 360. The engine produces 409HP static as opposed to 400 so not much has been done to the engine. (The 425HP is a dynamic power which certainly in part is due to air flow but also may have an electronic component). The gearbox is a standard F1 gearbox with new software which make the box smoother in normal mode than the standard car, allows for quicker changes in race mode and also accomodates launch control. The barkes are carbon ceramic and there are conflicting reports regarding these both in terms of whether they wear, whether, if they do, this is excessive and what they cost (I have my own costs and views). The rest of the car is basically the same as the 360M but with some lighter parts.

Robin, good explanation, at least somewhere, somehow it retains a 25 HP benefit over standard 360M yes? when will you see this gain? are you saying when the car is at speed, air flowing etc? that might be it...

The engine, on the bench, is 9HP more powerful than an engine from a standard 360. The engine, in the car, at maximum power is rated dynamically at 425HP, 25HP more than the standard car. At the time I got this answer from the factory they didn't give a very good explanation of the emaning of dynamic. Initially I, and others on this site, thought this was due to 180mph plus air being forced into the engine or causing increased manifold pressure in some way. This is probably true but I have recently had some indication, again from the factory while visiting there, that air flow is only part of the dynamic HP increase and that engine electronics could be playing its part too and maybe even the biggest part.

If I'd wanted a sportscar to be used for street driving, and wanted some comfort, I would have ordered a loaded 360 rather than a CS.

I bought a CS because I wanted an occasional track day car, plus a very raw street experience. I didn't even order a radio. The car is low, rides hard, wants speed, and is loud both from engine noise and street debris kicked up underneath - ideal for me. I think that the car provides a particular driving experience that is not for everyone. Sometimes you don't want that harshness. JMHO.

Edit - I hope the CS will depreciate at a slower rate than the Modenas, but that had no effect on my decision to buy the car. With so many ultra performance cars on the market, I disregard long term value.
