Hi, am looking at a 360 spider, manual. I wanted to know if any one has attempted at converting a manual to a f1 gearbox. Is this possible?

Take time to find what you really want. It IS out there. This is not a recommended project. Parts alone will be almost as much as the car.

Why would anyone do such a thing? is there some kind of world wide shortage of F1 360's?

It would cost in the neighborhood of 30K (new parts) plus labor.

Sorry to see some people here were pretty harsh in their response. But overall, they are correct... Major mechanical modifications or upgrades are almost always done by owners who just want to do it as a challenge, for ultra-performance, or to have something special and different that suits them. If you can't find a 360F1 in the color you want, or with the interior you want, it would be easier and cheaper to just buy a nice, original 360F1, and have the paint or interior redone to specifically suit you. Best of luck with whatever you decide to do.. and let us know if you buy something!! :)

Yes, it's possible. But don't waste the time or money as there are plenty of F1 trans cars out there!

There are plenty of F1 cars out there. The manual trans are a little bit harder to find. If you are buying and want an F1 it's way better to buy an F1 as most of the 360's are F1 and the cost is not worth it to do that kind of conversion. Not only do you have the price of the conversion but, your car is going to be altered making it a story car when it comes time to sell. So it's a big double hit.

The whole reason for entertaining the idea is solely because there are NO cars available in India. Surely, no sane person would undertake this venture

    Then:
    1. Don't get the car
    2. Import a car with F1 trans
    3. Enjoy the wonderful manual transmission!

If you are in India, you would get much more accurate and helpful responses if you would put that in your user profile!

This would make it even more difficult as a do-it-yourself conversion.
