360F1 "slow down" warning

If the car is exhibiting no signs of exhaust overheat (cats glowing red for example), and the slow-down warning occurs even when the car is basically stone cold, the most likely culprit is a failure of one (or both) exhaust ECU's or one (or both) thermocouples.

Ricambi is right, very common on older cars. There are some diagnostic checks that your tech can do so you don't just throw parts at it. As well as checking for errors in the engine ecu, it may narrow it down.

 

Had many of the above mentioned ThermoCup & CAT ECUs fail due to water ingress that cause this issue. Also had a lot of trouble with inlet manifold gaskets being dragged in under hard acceleration, can be a real difficult one to find, get your tech to delete the errors whilst at idle if you hear a change to the running of the engine i.e lumpy for several seconds then check the inlet manifold gaskets. Usually get a multiple miss-fire error code too. [emoji1360]

There are many threads on this, which you should probably read. In addition to the possible causes mentioned above, another common problem is simply an intermittent ground problem. That can be fixed by cleaning the ground straps or adding an additional ground wire. Again, this is discussed at some length in other threads.

I had the same problem and in my case it was an intermittent ground issue, fixed by adding a second ground strap.

 

These Slow Downs are a source of irritation for me. My CS will get them, even when cold. I've replaced both ECUs and thermocouples and nada.

Anyone have any suggestions?

 

Sometimes it can be hard to find. You might have a wiring issue. Might need to have a look with an SD. In most cases, it's the ECU and not thermocouple.

 

I bet there's a ground issue or some other wiring issue. Both ECUs are new, as are the thermocouples.

 

Are they the standard vescovini units? Have you done a killswitch reset since they were replaced?

 

Just had mine in for this with the same issue. They thought before I brought it in it would be a faulty sensor that gauges the catalytic converters. Turns out it was a high RPM misfire. Norwood replaced the plugs (which they said were getting old), did an oil change and reset the computer for the misfire. Around a thousand bucks later, the car has no problem and is fixed.
