My 360M had a misfire today and through up the check engine light. I plugged in my OBDII diagnostics tool and it showed the code "P0302 generic cylinder 2 misfire detected". Can anyone help me with what may have caused this and what I should be checking to rectify the fault. I have checked that the plug lead/coil is tight and all seems OK. Thanks in advance.

Swap plug with another cylinder and see if the misfire follows, if it doesn't swap the coil.Should be able to tell by unplugging the coils and listening to the engine although it can be hard to tell on an 8 cylinder. If the coil and plug are good then your need to make sure the injector is switching...after that compression check....is the plug in cylinder 2 wet?Obviously if you have an SD2 and an oscilloscope it makes things easier....

is there any way you can post up a video clip of the car running with a sound clip ?

most cases please look at the ignotor coil packs and listen for an ARC electrical noise also check over the fule injector clips as well.

    Derek,
I had a similar problem on my Audi recently. I replaced the plugs and wires, but to no avail. I though it was something electrical as it was a very sharp and pronounced misfire. It ended up being a bad injector. I dont know how easy it is to access the fuel injectors, but if you can easily swap the #2 with another, you'll be able to see if that misfire moves with it.
