For a Cars and Coffee crash - the cause is usually:

Overly aggressive on accelerator, causing the back end to step out (oversteer)
Rather than staying on power and counter steering out of the oversteer, the driver lifts off while correcting
Weight shifts forward to front wheels which are steered hard into the skid
Sudden increase in traction to the front, car shoots in the direction of the correction
Subsequent hamfisted overcorrections or too slow of a reaction = crash

These cars don't have a ton of torque but wildly stabbing at the throttle, especially on cold tires with ASR off, will result in oversteer.

What are "the best tires"? It obviously varies depending on weather/driving purpose/etc.

Even "cheap" modern tires are much better than the high performance tires that existed when these cars were launched. Tire technology has come a long way.

2nd gear around 4000rpm, around 100km/h I guess. It was my friend’s newly acquired 355 challenge, right after a coffee meet... The road was dry but tires were not fully warmed up.
