With the strong dollar, these cars are looking very good. Have any of you converted, and imported before? A 99/00 coupe can be had for 125-130K Canadian with the exchange.

I understand the bumpers need to be changes...what else?

99 is not admissible at all.... 2000,not all but some yes... they need the child anchor in the frame..not all cars have that

The cheapest 2000 on the DuPont site is about $132K USD for a nice low mileage example like you said you wanted..........

2000 models require bumpers according to the RIV site. Add $15K++....I do not know the "exact" number....but it's around that.

2001 and up do not require bumpers..........

132K USD equals $159,300 CAD more or less according to the Bank of Canada site
Add 6.3 % duty and you are now at $169,335 CAD
Add bumpers......now it's $185,000 CAD....plus $2,000 freight or travel expense and $500 of misc fees for RIV...etc.....for a grand total of $187,500.....+ GST...........less any discount you can negotiate.

There are plently of Canadian spec cars up here for under $200K asking..........

After all that work and time spent you still get a US car that will sell for less than a Canadian car. So what is the point of the exercise?

I don't mean to highjack this thread, but I have a similar question. If you own property in the U.S, and have a Ferrari there for the winter (bought in the U.S), can a Canadian then ship a U.S car to Canada just for the summer? I heard at one time there was a problem for Canadians to bring a U.S plated car to Canada (even if it is just temporary), but I don't know if this is a fact or not.
    Thanks.

You would certainly want to check and re-check before doing anything on something like this!

I realize some of the the points on here are made by dealers, but I too have seen many US cars sit and then sit some more. I think they might be right...
