Is anyone running a MSD 6A on the Boxer? I called MSD, they said that it should work fine. Just wanted to check with you guys first!!! Oh, and will the MSD tach drive output work with the BB tach?

    Thank, Ital351

Plug and play if its a simple MSD 6A. This version has no rev limiter. If you go for the MSD 6AL it needs to be modified by MSD to work with the 12 cylinder because of the rev limiter. Mine works well but you might benefit from better wires and no extenders when you do the conversion.

As the sage P. Newman suggested, plug and play. I am running a MSD 6A without rev limiter. No tach conversion unit required (if I recall correctly).

Ditto for me, as well (MSD 7AL-2). The MSD unit will drive the tach without any problems.

MSD Muliple Spark DIscharge, replaces the dinoplex, have one in my BB just put one in my 930 Turbo Carrera big difference vs even the old high output Bosch CDI, the P required a tach adapter module $50, MSD sparks twice below 3000 rpm so helps keep the plugs clean and from fouling, good unit and up grade`for <$200

Have MSD 6A and all works fine. Bolt straight on. Just watch those revs - easy to spin it up because of the sound. Did it originally have a limiter with the Dinoplex?

Yes the limiter is the smaller of the 2 packs screwed onto the heatsink base for the BBi anyway.

Murph - is that Peanut Butter and Jelly or Bacon Lettuce and Tomato? If so, what is Newman talking about with GTW?

While I have an MSD in my BB512i that I painted black and hid out of sight...I left the Dinoplex and wires for the occasional concours. But, if I had it to do again I would get one of the Dinoplex units that have been rebuilt with modern electronics ... http://www.ferraripartsexchange.com/electrical.htm ...

If concours are your game then rebuild as original since they listen for the electronic whine of the dinoplex. If modern internals are used the whine is gone and so is a point.

Sorry, I do not frequent Wimpeys. Should I? And what is a GTW?

I know you are joking...I have never seen an FCA concours judge listen for Dinoplex whining. In fact, I have had my old Fiat Boxer at an FCA concours and the judge didn't even see the MSD unit that I had mounted underneath the car. He saw the Dinoplex in the correct location with the wires coming from it and was happy. The only points I lost was for a blown back-up light...he gave me an option to change it, but I declined due to the hassle... and I was at that time missing the leather pouch that holds the vinyl tool roll.

Im not, thats what I was told at the concours I brought my boxer to. I watched as the judges asked the car owners to turn the key on, not start the engine then they stuffed their head down near the back window listening for the sound of the dinoplex.

With all due respect, I'll bet that these same judges check the cars to make sure that they have genuine "Italian air" still in the tires...and don't deduct for the "typical" over-restored, over-detailed cars which are nothing like what really came from the Factory.

Actually an over-restored boxer in the event went home with a long face and sour grapes. So, you lose the bet, what do I get now?

Yes but an HCP might be a better choice if you're still running a Dinoplex.
I'm not sure what Newman is talking about, I've got him on ignore:D

Murph - now I am really confused! HCP? Send me a text message of all these acronyms and my kids will be able to translate for me.

As far as the judge is concerned, my guess is that he is older than 50. If this is correct, simply state that you hear the high-pitched whine of the electronics just fine. There must be something wrong with his hearing.
