    Kind regards

    Hi Darren,

Welcome aboard! There are a number of sources for these lenses, including ReOriginals and Ebay. However, as a Daytona is considered a vintage Ferrari (Daytona = 365GTB/4 for the coupe or 365GTS/4 for the spider - these are not the same as a 365GT4 2+2), I would recommend posting your request in the Vintage section.

Also, use the search function. Most likely your question has already been answered.

    Regards,

    Art S.

    Thanks Guy's,

I've just come around from passing out; having fallen off my chair when I saw the cost of a lense from the above recommended suppliers.

$1100 USD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! plus 20% import tax to UK plus shipping!

I can understand a well engineered and developed engine part costing serious money, but a $10 piece of injected plastic.....no way.

Does anyone know anyone in China that make these for 50 cents each?

    Regards
    D

I do a lot of biz in China and I am sure they can make new ones, but they always will need 1 a few originals to copy. And you will never see the originals back again unharmed. Check out suppliers at sites like Alibaba for manufactorers.

Btw, how do these kit car builders like Southern Roadcraft get their lenses? These parts must be produced too right?

lenses and bumpers/fenders should have been kept well away from the front/rear of the cars for our sake!
alas both seem to be more expensive than space shuttle parts.

On the other hand: If you can afford to own a Daytona, dropping a grand for small parts is very normal, and you should be used to that now.

But if you the repros are costing Ferrari-Classiche-money I can image that you feel ripped off. Than I would see if they can be made in China or track down the (most likely) chinese factory that produces these lenses.

Thanks guy's, Alistair you made me smile!

I'm a precision engineer by trade, and don't agree that you have a licence to rip people off if they have worked hard all their life to buy an expensive car that they are passionate about.

Sure; I have a large collection of cars now, but I've gone without food and heating at times to get where I am.

It costs no more to make a daytona light lense than any other car even a budget Asian cars lights are made using the same process and same materials so why the stupid Daytona price?

Ok, if extra super expensive materials or a team of highly paid boffins lead by Stephen Hawkins were involved, I'd gladly part with the cash. Sadly they're not, so why do we accept this?

I will actively look at alternative sources.

It's sad when it all really just boils down to simple greed.

LOL, story of my life! I'd go and hunt down a chinese manufacturer and let them make 100 pair. Sell the other 99 pair and you'll have 'm for free and extra cash for food and some heating ;) :D
And also the prices will do down because there will be no shortage anymore :D

Well if you're an engineer you know-

Design time and mold charges must be folded into the unit cost of each item.

Make 500,000 Acura lenses and the $22,000 mold charge is less than half a dollar per unit- There were only 525 Daytona made EVER and maybe 450 exist today?? Do a production run of 100 pcs and your per unit amortization cost is $200 each plus design time plus all the other expenses related with a large production run--

Do a small hand made run and you have 20 hours of labor into polishing each lens. Has nothing to do with the $1.50 worth of plastic in each piece.

    Not so...

This works done already, you just mold off an original, even with 2% mold v product shrinkage, it'll be more than acceptable. or even 3d scan. Done it a few times with aluminium engine parts on my pre-war cars.

It's all smoke and mirrors to "justify" the high prices.

Darren, have you tried a FabLab in your erea? Maybe they can help. I do not know if they can help with these parts, but a friend of mine can create awesome plastic parts in a FabLab.

You could get reproductions for all of the lights glass etc. Use the reprodctions and save the originals safely boxed up in your garage.

Very good point and if you could make some of these then we might just beat the greedy guys. There comes a point where its just impertinent asking rocket science money for greed. For that very reason i have been refurbing mine with model paint on the inside for the orange and scraping the old peeled orange from the inside with a scalpel blade having used too strong a remover in the first place 'idiot' but i wont be beaten and will have them looking fine.
The bumpers /fenders can be got round ime sure, my back fender for instance being the one which is steel covered in moulded rubber not the pure steele version of newer ones needs replacing and at more than the cost of my other car which is a modern car with aircon 50 00 miles and runs perfectly i will not buy one I will make an exact copy using steamed marine ply coated in fiberglass resin just like me old skateboards which took a lot of stick shall we say! with the spare cash i will buy another car for fun.
    regards
    Alastair
