Can anyone help me? I would like to check the timing chain and tensioner on my V12 engine. What is the procedure and in what order do I proceed? Which parts have to come off first before I get to the chain..?
    Thanks,

    Howard

Remember that with a stretched chain, cam timing will also be getting further away from optimum.

Of the 4 cams, the one nearest the tensioner will be the worse. On carb cars, it's hard to pick by feel/ear, but a 400i/412 dies if the cams go off.

You will only get 50k out of a chain before it has stretched half an inch.
when this happens power goes away, you try and try to tune but it starts to let the cams go out of phase.
just dig in and change it!
