365 GTB/4 Daytona Competizione Engine and Transaxle.

    I thought we may have discussed this before but could not find much using the search function so my question is what are the differences between a standard road going Daytona engine that makes 352 BHP and the engines in those of the 15 Factory Series 1-3 Competizione versions that are said to make between 400 and 450 BHP? Although the road versions and those on the comp. cars have the same tipo numbers for these major components they surely cannot be the same?

    Do they have?
    1. Higher Compression Pistons.
    2. Uprated camshafts like tipo 130 camshafts.
    3. Bigger valves/springs.
    4. Uprated strengthened crankshaft and bearings.
    5. Elektron camshaft covers.
    6. Strengthened cylinder block/crankcase.
    7. Modified Weber carburettors.
    Is the transaxle beefed up in anyway with stronger bearings and is that also made from elektron like that of a 275 GTB/C?

    Surely the gearing must be different at least?

    Anything else?

    #1 and 2 probably.
    removing the restrictive air cleaner/filter unlocks horsepower.

    From Braden / Roush book:
    "These series 2 cars had engines with higher lift cams, ported and polished heads, and a compression ratio of 10.1 to 1. These engines developed 402 hp at 8,300 rpm."
    and
    "The series 3 cars (...) developed 450 hp. Their preparation included such special items as billet connecting rods, tuned manifolds, larger valves and modified camshafts"
