I am nearing the end of the engine rebuild for the family 365 project - and have taken pictures along the way for posterity. However, today this view made me laugh - at the front is the aforementioned Ferrari engine, at the far end a 261cu.in Chevrolet, and in the middle a Subaru WRC (S6 to be precise) - how small is the Subaru...

The Chevrolet sports a stroker kit (making it around 4.5 litre), twin downdraught Zenith carbs and puts out around 170 bhp - quite good for it's age.
The Ferrari has four cams and six carbs, 4.3 litres, and makes around 330 bhp (we'll see when I get to the dyno).
The Subaru has four cams, but only two litres, AND a 34mm restrictor in the turbo limiting it's power capabilities - but still makes 335bhp and around 600nm torque...

    Progress.

Engine looks great Howard, be great to see the car one day.

Can you do me a favour and PM me Terry's number - the one you gave me a while ago isn't right and I'd like to get in touch with him to get the 400 carbs set up and tuned.

It's been a long time coming for various reasons, but I can see the light at the end of the tunnel - thanks for the encouragement!

I can't post a pic of the car just yet - I put the rolling shell away for the winter, after it returned from the paintshop - but as soon as I finish the engine I will, promise.

I think I just need to complete the HT leads and the throttle linkage then it's on to the dyno - more excitement...

My 2 litre STi only makes 195kw at the wheels. It runs stock boost and the factory ECU.

It's completely standard, except for a roller bearing turbo, injectors, fuel rail, exhaust, fuel pump and a reflashed ECU.

It's pretty impressive isn't it, however it's worth pointing out that the standard turbo has an intake of around 45mm - against 34mm on the WRC version - that's a very small hole to get all that air in!
They do have 11.0:1 compression though, and the boost control system allows around 2.5 bar at 3000rpm. And this was in 2000, not 2013. To be fair the only standard parts on the engine are the belt covers though...

    You should see the transmission!
