I'ii keep it short because we've been here before, Anyone seen or know of one anywhere ?
Yikes in USA it'd be TRutlands or GT CarParts in AZ...and Walter Medlin's got one in his barn in FL.....
Do you remember the last place you had it?... You could possibly back track and find it. I do that with my sunglasses all the time. I know of a BBi back, not sure what it would take to rework to a 365bb if it would even be possible?
Lets see this car, not sure if you posted pics before or not. Im assuming you bought the car less the clamshell? Was it a car deemed a parts car and was robbed of its goodies and you're insane enough to take on the task of bringing it back to life?
I know of one sitting in a garage. It has a little 'fender bender' damage on one quarter near the light assembly and it was cut down the middle for transport many years ago. PM me if interested. I can get some pictures of it. I know it is still there I saw it (both pieces) earlier this week.
Insane might be about right. Yes i did get car as a very small pile of parts, quite a lot smaller than i was originally led to believe. But as you know its great fun and does not really matter how long it takes as long as you enjoy it ! I have a fire damaged BBi clam but its a lot of work, Too wide, too long, and air box holes in wrong places but if 365 clam does not happen then that is what i'll have to do. At least with the carbed 512 lid the air box spacing is correct, the BBi would be the worst one to use even if it wasnt melted! Thanks for posting pics, does the car run now?
Nick, i saw the pics and had to chime in. i work on jet aircraft for a living. your lid can be repaired by a good sheet metal guy, ask around and check with local aircraft restorers or large maintenance shops near the airport. aircraft skins are usually a 7075-T6 aluminum alloy. not many car guys mess with aluminum anymore, but perhaps a good sheet metal guy with aircraft fabrication / repair experience can fab some new sections for you and repair what you have. you would be stunned to know what gets fixed and saved on pressurized aircraft, so cars are not near as big a deal! even broken, your car is still beautiful. hats off to you for saving her.
Stories like this-a sawn in half for transport rear clip-are hillarious....who owns it...Homer Simpson? -raptr
Nick, The repair of that burned clip would not be too big a deal for any quality restoration shop. This type of reconstruction(and much, much more) is done everyday, all over the world. There is no mystery to the repair, you just need a talented metal man.No need for exotic aluminium, any 3000 series aluminium is more than adequate,it's readily available and probably better that what was used originally. If you were in the US I could hook you up with at least four different shops that could start on it today. If you cannot find anyone over there, contact me and I'll see what I can do. I admire your efforts. If everyone had the attitude "it's too much work" then alot of very interesting cars would have been thrown-out over the years and your car certainly deserves to be saved,in fact a when your car is done and you look back at the repairs you will say YES,IT WAS WELL WORTH IT!Good luck with your project. raptr
Having worked with some of the most talented fabricators in the world when I was in racing over in the UK, you should have no trouble locating one. Seems like last year I was falling over a small shop everywhere I went, contact a vintage racer for ideas.
The car did not have the rear end when i got it. it was "in a barn" on Oxford Uk along with lots of other parts missing on delivery ! Went to said barn to collect with a friend of mind one sunday morning to find it empty and looking ready for demolition. Then an old lady comes out of nowhere waving a long stick in the air telling us to get off her land, tryed to explain the situation but she was having non of it. Was like a sceen from Tom & Gerry !!!!. I do have a good contact to repair my 512 BBi clam but would so much like to have an orrigional, You all know how it is.
Thanks Rartr. As much as i love doing it, Its still nice to have the odd pat on the back. Thanks Mate. nick
I'm with you too......wish I was buying this old 1976 512 I refer to....engine #0004. Want a stable mate to yours????
All prancing horses need a stable mate. Is this 512 proto a runner of a show car pusher, Got to be worth a go. Could be one of those you will regret not having, posting in a few years telling all how you could have had it for 90k !Go on make us all jealous. Nick
It would take selling all 3 of my 308s...and those 12s are a hungry pony to feed! But yes, it'll be sad to one day be handed the Trust, and think..... No it's a driver, running..the Factory tried hard to buy it back when returned in 1985 for total rebuild.....sleeping in a warehouse by NASA, jets going off overhead......I checked the VIN with Nathan Beehl. t's the ver first, probably a chassis identical to yourswith the bigger motor stuffed in.. He said mostly they exploded engnes #ooo1 - 0003, on the dyno, seeing what thy made! LOL! It's a two tail light rear clip though, I need to return and at least get some pics, before it goes...
