Hello everyone,I'm new here so bear with me.I'm trying to learn as much as I can about Berlinetta Boxers.Almost every picture I have seen of a 365 bb engine has the same distributor configuration of a horizontally mounted distributor driven by the intake camshaft. However,a picture in my bb book by Mel Nicols has a vertically[well almost vertically]mounted distributor driven off the exhaust cam as well as other signifigant changes to the bell housing, engine mounts, etc.I'm thinking that the vertically mounted distributor either made it into the first couple of production cars or not at all.Was this a prototype design,or did any of these make it into production? Thanks,Bryan.

That was one of a few prototypes, Ferrari changed to the horizontal mount for reliability and less moving parts.

Of course the negative which was the last thing on their minds I am sure was horizontal mount 12 cyl dists have a tendency to have the advance arms freeze up from prolonged sitting or non use of the motor
