Hi, I'm from France. I'm interrested by a car in a dealer shop from Nederland Amsterdam . I'ts a 365 GTC4, metal brown. He said the car has only 27000 miles, come from california. The car look nice but come only with one bill : Is it not strange the cams must be repaired with a low mileage like that ? The car cost 250 000 $ Thank you for your help. Herve France
No - Uber low miles garage queens that have been stud about the top of the engine drys up . It’s the parts at the top that wear the most at cold starts . Also way back in the 60,s early 70 ,s they did indeed appear to have have soft cam shafts that quickly would loose there profiles ( compared to there contemporarys like say Aston’s and Jaguars etc . By the mid 70 ,s they had figured out how to make a more durable camshaft .Its to do with the profile the lobes are pretty steep ie they were / are quite camy engines as well as some metallurgical issues of the followers being harder than the lobes ,( or what ever the lobes come into contact ) so the softer lobs wear first . So a tiny change of lobe profile makes tuning problematical. It’s something to look out for on the Dino 246 ,s .They say they are rated fit only 30000 miles tops before a rebuilt. Examining the invoice it looks like they have been pretty comprehensive recommissioning it to get it running sweet .
