There have been a couple threads on this product. Not many folks have tried it. I have. So I thought I'd post what I've found so far. I bought just the handle & a can of the spray from an on-line retailer. I watched a number of videos, read the 3M application PDFs, saw their video(s). I bought 3M blue tape, Home Depot cheapo plastic and prepped my wife's MB 320CLK for a front bumper spray. It was replaced in winter but already had a couple of dings/chips. It got a thorough cleaning, Meguiars paint cleaner, NXT wax, lamps/grill taken off, masked, and put up on ramps with the nose in my garage. On one of our freak warm 70 degree days, I applied the product in three passes as directed, waited about 15 min, and removed the masking. It took about a 1/2 can. Then let the car sit for a couple hours. I noticed the surface still had a bit of orange peel. I backed the car out into the direct sun for a bunch of hours as I read that can help the smoothing. It didn't. But its not terrible, esp. since this is the bumper. I contacted 3M. I had a wonderful 30min conversation with one of their film technicians. I was very impressed. I learned: 1) I probably didn't apply enough product so it didn't auto-smooth as it should have. This is not spray paint and is not to be applied as such. It takes a little practice. It should go on thick, but be careful of runs 2) I should have bought the -whole- kit. It should not have been sold separately. There were some additional instructions with the kit and the wax is specially formulated to make the film easier to remove 3) Since I haven't waxed over the film, I should be able to just re-spray again, thicker, with no ill affects 4) If I choose to remove the film, and it's too thin, it wont peel off in sheets, but rather small patches. This will just take additional time. Denatured alcohol will help remove it. 5) It should apply at 2mil thick. their standard film is 8mil. But at 2mil, it is 80% as affective as their 8mil film. 6) This is a new market for them. They are looking at selling bulk & to body shops/paint shops and new formulations are already under way. 7) As always, preparation is everything. Take care of those dings first. They will show through the film just as they would a clear bra. So if you apply this once a year, and remove & reapply the next, it sounds like a little manual labor but for good results. I know with my std 3M clear bra on, it gets chips, but I'm stuck with them unless I want to pay $$$ to have it removed and hope I don't have to pay $$$ to have the nose res-prayed if the film pulls off the paint.
