I left my car at the car detailer to put on the nano glass sealer. I told them they could rip out all the 3M protective film and... it's a disaster! They did use a heat gun and they did spent 4 hours peeling but still destroyed the paint... Now I need to repaint my whole car.

Not to fuel the fire but I would be F*****N pissed!

I have heard of this happening before with clear bra removal. I am not a expert but have read that a heat gun and an adhesive remover are necessary to avoid damage while removing.

I would make them pay and correct the mistake!

Actually I've removed my clear bra on two cars with zero issues? If it's not the factory paint it'll definitely be more of a probability but no so much in factory paint.

    This is just my experience.

Applied with steam, should be removed with steam. Never had an issue here.

Please post some pictures of the paint damage.

I have a slightly damaged 3M film and was considering having it replaced, and now I hesitate.

Please post some images and keep us posted. I hope it works out for you.

Hey guys, one of my good friends is the body shop manager at a large Mercedes dealer. I have watched there techs install and remove these clear bras. From what I've seen they use a steam gun with a long nozzle, it says "Hautzi"? Or something like that. They put one on my CLS 550. They removed a year later and put the full hood version on. I watched them remove it and had no quams with the process. My paint looks the same. Very sorry you had this happen to your car. Remember its NOT your fault! You took it to someone expecting a professional job for a reasonable price and unfortunately didn't get it. Keep your chin up! It is fixable.

the car is in the process of full body re-paint, will be ready in 3 weeks. sorry couldn't get any clear photos.
    - the damage was on the lacquer layers, cracking and ripping.
    - my damage area were not original paint, original paint would have held up better.
    - body shop told me 3M recommend removing the film under 2-3 years.
    - installing the film is expensive, removing it is also expensive.

I'm sure the car will look perfect once done. I'm sorry for the headache.

This is where OEM paint is almost always superior to aftermarket paint. If ever needing quality paint work, be sure to go with a company that is well known for it. Do not go for aftermarket paint based on price.

repaint needs to be fully cured before clear bra. this take at least 30 days (sometimes more). most body shop will just bake it for a day and apply the clear bra to finish the job.

have the HK dealer repaint it. they do a good job. long wait though. sounds like you just need a new clear coat. maybe they can wet sand the old clear coat without repainting the base color coat. would make it faster.

What is a nano glass sealer? What part of the car was it being applied?

I spoke to my dealer today regarding this as Im about to buy a Scud with a film already on it. They said you must wait a full 4 weeks before applying it like Djantive says. Other wise the paint will come off with the film....
