That was extremely interesting. My car has 6K on it now and I would assume in 3-4k more miles I will repaint certain areas and then without question see if the Armor stuff is available out this way in NJ.

    Thanks!...Great post.

There must be some difference in the paints. My 03 360 has around 8K miles on it (80% or so of "spirited" back road driving) and I only have a couple of extremely small chips. Not even worth touching up.

Of course, I take all the common sense precautions - don't get too close to gravel trucks, avoid gravel roads, etc. It has several coats of a polymer finish -- maybe that helps some.

Same here...2 small chips...so you're probably right, so I will probably not need a touch up for a while

It might have more to do with where you live than with paint differences. Here in the Seattle area, the DOT puts down gravel to combat ice and the occasional snow. Since it's rock chips (and not just salt) it stays around forever. So, the occasional rock gets kicked up when you least want it. I lived in the CA San Jose area for 20 years and never once got a cracked windshield or much of any chips. When I moved to Seattle, both my new 911 and 360 got cracked windshields within 2 months of new. This stuff wouldn't save the windshield, but it might save the paint at the first impact. Anyway, we'll see...

I can't stand the plastic film approach on aesthetic grounds. To me, the plastic looks much more unsightly than a few honest stone chips. I'd much rather get a few chips and do touchups using Langka.

It'll be interesting to see how your experiment fares. How did they deal with the badging -- was it removed or just masked? Have you noticed any missed areas or overspray yet?

At a Christmas lunch in Pompano Beach, FL, there were a couple of late model Porsche 911s with protective film, and I didn't realize it until the owners said so. Close examination revealed the trailing edge of the film very faintly visible along the front fenders and hood, but otherwise the film was invisible. I don't know whose film they used.....

I live out in the Bay Area in California and I get very paranoid about getting paint chips. So a few months back, I did some reasearch and had the guys out at Premier wrap my 360 with the clear bra. I had them wrap my entire car and I couldn't be happier with the results. (Yes that may be kind of obsessive, but it gives me a peace of mind) They used a film called Venture and it was so clear that I couldn't even tell it is there. If anyone is interested, definitely give them a call. I think you could find their info on their website: www.premiermobilegroup.com Ask for Sam.

I'll take some pics and post them as soon as it stops raining around here. What's up with this non stop rain anyways.
