Do we have a thread that details the available factory standard and optional equipment by whatever market, year, or model breakdown it happened by? I think such a thread would be helpful since there are a lot of frequent discussions and misconceptions about things like the deep front spoiler, gauge locations, and so forth. Although some of the changes didn't happen at an exact cutoff point, even an approximation and a list of everything that was "possible" would be nice.

The commonly available info about the options on sources such as Wikipedia tends to be either wrong or oversimplified, unfortunately causing further confusion.

Blumel's book may help, but I have read it has a few errors.

I'd love to get a copy sometime, but I've also heard there are some errors and omissions. I may make that my next car related purchase. The price and availability isn't great though, especially for anyone just looking into the market and not serious yet. I'm sure a comparable or greater amount of info is here on the forums, but just scattered in random threads.

The book is great, however one thing it does not have is all the various
Signage and placards that differ from country to country.

It's a very good book, but not a great one for the sake of:
    - a few minor errors like the supposedly "hydraulic clutch" of the 328, for instance - (whenever I have one of my two cars on a lift, I see a cable activating the clutch); the not-so-crystal clear explanation of ABS on 328s, etc...
    - a few omissions that are understandable due to the fact that the 3x8s were more or less hand build and could have been produced with small differences.
For instance, all the minor differences in the evolution of the cars, such as small additions or change to details are not included (like: inside/outside evolution of door handles on the 328s, or the change from one rubber patch to two on the passenger carpet, or the change in the beige leather quality with car 79660, etc...) are not listed.
So the Bluemel's book should not be taken as the authoritative work on the 3x8 or a "bible" (as we say in french when a book is THE definitive book on a subject) but as a good, comprehensive guideline, which does not dispense you to do your homework after reading: check and verify.

    Rgds
