Here are installation instructions of how to properly install the trim ring that goes around the ignition key of a Ferrari 308 and 328. I’ll offer the instructions in order using the diagrams below and by referencing their respective part numbers.

First is the part in question which is B13 and B14. It is an outside ring (the part you see) and an inside ring (that retains the outside one in place). The bugger is that the only way to replace this is to lower the steering column. Other people do away with B13 and just glue B14 to the dash using urethane or black silicone. We won’t be doing that. Now for the directions as I see them:

    1. (optional) Remove the drivers seat. Held in with 4 bolts on the base rails this is a simple job that will gain you a lot of access. Or you can leave the seat and struggle. Remember that when removing the seat there may be a wire at the base to dis-connect.

    2. Remove the steering wheel. Best done by removing the 6 allen head bolts rather than the big ring nut under the horn button.

    3. Remove B6. Should be held in with 4 screws.

    4. This is the hard one. With the key out of the ignition and the steering locked, fully loosen off A24. Cursing is expected.

    5. Remove A34 and A35. There should be two of these despite the drawing showing only one.

    6. With these bolts removed you can now tilt the steering column and slide it along A3. This should give you enough clearance to move the lock assembly (A26) clear of its opening in the dash.

    7. B13 and B14 can now be installed. If you have made it this far then you don’t need instructions on how to change it. B14 is the outer ring and B13 threads onto it to lock it in place on the dash.

    8. Re-installation is the reverse of dis-assembly

Yes this job is a major PITA which is why most people glue them on. That said it never came like that so I prefer the bleeding knuckles and cursing to a tube of glue.
