I was doing a 3 point turn in a road, with no curb, just paved slops on each side to guide the water. I am guessing that the slopes were about 4-6 inches. I heard a load thump (sounded like I bottomed out) ... I get out and this is what I see:

I had no idea that these cars were that low and had fiberglass bumper covers ... how much do you think this will set me back? I'm not ging to contact the insurance company ... probably cost me more.

The sad part is that I was going slow ... I am still trying to figure out how I managed this much damage going less than 5 mph ...

Relax a bit. A GOOD bodyshop can repair that damage fairly easily and much more cost effectively than buying a replacement piece (which would have to be paint matched anyway), and black should be easy to paint match. Good luck.

+1. It will probably be about $1200.00 to fix.. $$$ if you replace. Not going through your insurance company will save a hit on your CarFax report.

Within two weeks of owning mine, I had torn up the front lip on my 348 SS and received my first speeding ticket.

Your damage looks a little more extensive than mine, but I agree it looks to be in the 1200-1400 range. I hear you on how low they are. I am going to need to "pre-drive" some roads in the M3 to see if the roads are safe for the F-car...

It'll be ok. We (new owners) just need to learn how to safely drive these cars to protect them, but I guarantee this won't be the last time I tear up the front lip on mine...they are just r e a l l y low.

Could of been alot worse. Doesn't take much to crack up fiberglass. Find a good body shop, tell them you are paying out of pocket=CASH---Alot of times they will give you a much better price than going thru the insurance company, where they gouge the crap out of them....

Have the whole front bumper resprayed and apply 3M film!! :D

    DAMN!!!

    That does suck...

I always thought that front piece was made out of something more flexible. It hurts I know but that will cost somewhere around what these guys are talking given the body shop. The more exotic type places will give you a fancy coffee well you wait to get the quote and when you pay the bill.

Sorry it happened and I understand your pain!!!!

+1. No "Horsey Tax" In addition, get a pair of skid plates (in polyethylene or aluminum) made by Hill Engineering from Ricambi.

Unfortunately, I thnk it is going to set you back a bit more than that. The front bumper will have to be removed to be fixed so I am thinking around $2K for that one.

Yes the cars are that low and it doesn't take much speed to thrash that lower bumper.

Sorry to see that damage mate. :(:(

I would remove the front bar and take it to a good paint shop that can also work magic with fibreglass. :):)

HARD to tell what they will charge you for repair, as every paintshop is different. But I reckon if you remove it, you will save some money that way, it will cost you around the $1000+ for repair/re-paint. :):)

Major bummer :( ..... but as said above it can be restored to its former glory ............. depending on the shop and the repair method it would range from 1300 to 1800 IMO :).

Welcome to the family: every new Ferrari owner does it. I did it 4 times before really getting the hang of how far forward the nose is (it's not any lower than a regular car, just well forward of the front wheels.

As mentioned, get a body shop to fix it. They can reinforce it on the insider as well with more fiberglass making it very strong.

I've included a picture of mine before and after. I unfortunately didn't think to really document the damage though. The white arrows show where the major cracking was. The left under panel was almost falling off it had been crunched so hard and another portion rubbed right through. I also took the opportunity to put a CF lip on to replace the ss lip that was missing when I bought the car.

Go, Ernie!!! Attach a couple of Hill Engineering skid plates (probably nice, slippery polyethylene) from Ricambi and you'll be in business again.

+5 with all the feedback. Been there done that! ;)

Depends on who does the works, and whether they nail you with the "ferrari tax" but figure around $1200 to $1800 to properly repair the damage. I would also have the 3M or venture shield stuff applied, and a +1 to purchase some skid plates too...I prefer the slippery plastic ones like Scott.

Look at it as your yearly 348 dues. I crack my spoiler about once a year and it's about $500 to fix. Yours looks a bit more nasty so double that.

Don't sweat it, just get it fixed.

So my wife is wrong: I`m not the only stupid %@#$* one to pre-drive new routes... You tell her, boy!

    any-ways, skid-plates!

    regards, Ben.

One of you SS guys help me out here, does the front lip preclude us from putting the standard skid plates on our 348's and if it does what are some other options? Do we need to go into the Gothspeed Deep Dark Den to figure something out here?

Also, Ben348, tell your wife if her wallet = fixing the front lip, then no need to pre-drive any routes.

    Go Buckeyes,
