Hi all thanks for your help so far.
Still have to get this thing out on the road properly and see what its really about. You're seeing her at her worst in these pics, bit of a patient still

    The story so far
Soft top - sunbleached so re-dyed now looks well (hard to see in these pics)
Door Locks & handles - all sorted
Stereo - all sorted (for now)
Bodywork - all buffed down and body looks quite reasonable really. Bumpers could be touched up though.
Wipers - Motor overhauled, yet to refit but should be ok.
Keys - Apparently I've a 412 style folding key. Eurospares can't supply spare (they've been brilliant with everything else, they're trying to get me a complete interior trim) where would I get a replacement key?

    Help!!!!!
Headlight - lights work ok, but pop-ups don't move at all!
I can supply power direct at the relays and they just keep going up and down non-stop. So motors, wiring, etc all seem ok.
    Is it the column switch?
If so is it a steering wheel off job?

All this before I've had a proper test drive. Was I mad to buy an F-Car?

On the upside I got a nice key-ring on eBay

I had similar symptom when I first bought my 400 and when I posted a note on this forum someone gave me exactly the right answer. Pull the end of the stalk switch off, be brave and give a steady pull straight out and the plastic should pull off. The piece you are removing is square in one plane and about 4 cm long in the other (it is the one you rotate 90 degrees to turn the light on), just to be be sure we are talking the same piece. Once off, you will fine the actual switch. Inside the bottom of the plastic bit just removed there is a flat elevated piece of plastic that in one position opens the contacts and in the other closes them. In general that piece will be okay but I did see one car with the flat piece broken off. The most likely issue is that the soldered joint has failed. Once I bought my longed-needed electronics style soldering gun, the job took less than 5 minutes to repair.

I hope this does the trick and you can scratch one 'issue' off of your list. There will be new ones arrive as you get it on the road!

I heard a large zip-lock bag covered over the switch during dismantling helps keep parts from getting lost.

Wow, this site amazes me every day.
I can't believe how many people who are out there and willing to help.
Thanks alot guys, without you this car would be suffering now as my attention would wane BUT with your help and enthusiam, I always get rejuvenated and get stuck back in.
I'd love to get stripping now but just about to hop on a plane for Spain (week away with the missus).
Man I'll be so happy if the stalk is an easy fix. Get on now and buy keys too.

I'll be silent for a week then fixing the stalk switch then..... on the road???
We'll see the real list start!!!!

    Thanks again all
    Niall
