    Hey!

Does anyone know if a 400 crank will fit in a 365gt 2+2? I know shorter rods and pistons would be needed as the 400 blocks are taller to give room for the extra long throw. But I am wondering if the crank clears the webbing? Are the crank noses and rear seals the same? Does the 400 have splines for the chain gear and oil pump gear? Are they the same overall length? Did they change from early 400s to later 400s?

    Thanks in advance.

This was done by Carobu: they added spacers between the cranckcase and the heads.

No way to use smaller rods, pistons are already almost hitting the cranckshaft. My car has some high compression pistons (from daytona/365), the skirts had to be trimmed, but there was not much room left.

From memory they published also a daytona restomod, with pics of the spacers.

Oh, interesting. I do see the space between the skirts and counterweight on this 365 is very small. I was wondering if anyone has built this engine with pistons that are 3.5mm shorter. Unless the 400 crank counterweights have a diameter that is more than 3.5mm. I would love to see photos of the spacers as they would also have to accommodate the front cover/timing chain cover, and lengthen the runners for the carbs, although they may have just been able to open the ports up a little for this, or do nothing as the difference in the V may be very minimal. I think its a very huge project if this would have to be done. Using a 400 or 412 block may work, but with the single overhead cams, this again could run into front cover issues quickly.

Thanks for your reply and information!

My mistake I though you were talking about the 365 gtc4 which has some common parts with the daytona and the 412. All these engines had twin overhead cam.

Carobu got 325hp out of the 365 gt 2+2, you should have a look at how they did it.
