    Dear all,

I have just had my 1980 Straman convertible taken apart and re-sprayed. As it has lived most of it’s years in California the sun has been pretty tough on all the seals.

I have found most of the standard seals on the market but need some help with what Straman may have used for the sides on top of the windshield. Please see pictures showing how they looked before we took the car apart.

The two top rubber sears on each side of the windscreen seems “manufactured” and since Straman only did 36 cars it seems probable that they came from a “production” cars of a different brand. Any ideas appreciated.

Might want to reach out to Michael Sheehan- He and his wife did a few of these in the 80s

Get a recent copy of Hemmings and look under supplies for vendors that supply door rubber gaskets and seals for vintage cars. One that comes to mind is Lynn Steele, can't think of the others at the moment. I recently finished a 1941 Cadillac 4 door convertable sedan and was able to get exact reproductions of the top and window rubber seals, as well as door gaskets. They even had the cowl ventaltor rubber seal.

I have also got needed rubber gaskets and seals for the top on my 1982 400i Cabriolet from Steele. I actually sent them samples and drawings and they were able to find perfect replacements.

    Hi Robert,
I have been trying to understand the number of cars converted by Straman. This is the first time I have seen a firm number. I am curious where this 36 build count came from. It is good to know a firm number.

    Thanks,
    Slim
