I am the new proud owner of a 1980 400i convertible #30721. This is my third 2+2, having owned previously a 250 GTE and a 365 GT 2+2. The 400 is by far the most fun, being a converted model. A few points for others considering buying a 400. First of all, change all hoses and belts. I have already towed mine on a flat bed truck due to bursting water hoses. Take a good look at the mufflers and connecting pipes and any aftermarket modifications. All 400's except a few 412's are "gray" market cars. Be certain you have a plack showing the original KM's before a new miles instrument was installed, to give you the total miles on the car. I need to replace the right rear wheel bearing and look at the rubber bushings in the suspension system. If you have a high temperature problem, fix it before the engine gets into trouble. I have both fans run at all times.

If any other 400 owners wants to add to this starer list, please do so.

    Happy camper, 400 gts.

Many thanks. I receive the most amazing positive comments from people, even in Palm Beach where you see every great car made on every street corner....at the same time. With a new muffler system it also has the sound of an Enzo, and driving down Worth Avenue in first (automatic) gear makes the windows at the many and most well know stores rattle. It does not get any better than this.

    Congratulations, very nice car.
Just one question. How do you rate the 400, compared to the other 2+2s you had. Except being convertible, from the driver's point of view, how do you compare the 400 to the others. I'm more & more thinking at buying a 400 or 412 myself. Thx.

    Hi Bjorn,

Like Dave, I keep a s/n-database on Ferraris (and Lamborghinis). Here is what I can add to your car`s history:

1986/1987 Owned by David R. Kerr, Englewood, CO/USA (FOC USA Roster) - 30721 was a Straman Cabriolet conversion already back then.

Is there anything you know on your car´s history that you could tell Dave and me so that we can further extend our history records on 30721?
Prior owners, registrations, where you bought it etc? Anything would be much appeciated!

    Best regards

    Lars T.

You mentioned you installed a new exhaust system. May I ask which one. I recently purchased 32893 and it's quieter than my wifes caddy!!!! Need some true exhaust note. Also Dave or anyone else on the board with history I would appreciate anything I can get. I purchased Daves listing but no info.

That car look so much better that a lot of late model rolls and bentleys up there, super classic styling and hardly anyone has a beautiful example like yours. Perfect Florida car. Didn't Michael Jackson have one back in the day?

I think my old 1972 365 GT 2+2 was a better handling car. It was more of a sports car than the GT touring car the 400/412 is. However, I certainly enjoy the 400 and for the price give it support. The fun part is, you can take friends with you and share the fun of driving a V-12 Ferrari. I am having problems at the moment with my left fuel injector, running too rich. Hope to have this solved shortly.

Not certain about MJ having one. However, Rod Stewart had one, and he is in Palm Beach at times. Hope to run into him on Worth Avenue one day or at Testas where he goes for luch.

I think the 400 as a rag top is a stunning exapmle of how a great car can even look better.

The one I have is custom made by a shop in Fort Lauderdale. We installed regular pipes and just resontors and crome tips. The sound is amazing, almost too loud. I may replace the resonators with a small mofflers. Should still sound great.

You can get the hoses and belts from Maranello Autoparts in Tucker, GA. You can call 800-233-7820 and ask for Lee. They have just about any part you may need for the 400/412.

    Lars:

I purchased the car from Motorcargallary in Fort Lauderdale last December. Around the same time Dave purchased his. Though the car looks great, it is tired, and I am spending time and money to get it back. So far I have had problems with belts, hoses, water pump seals, right rear wheel bearings, and now the fuel injctor on the left side. It is running too rich, and I am having difficulties in getting it right. I may drive it from Palm Beach to Tim Stanford in Fort Lauderdale for him to take a look at it. It will be a black cloud over I-95 as I try to get there before all the plugs are in trouble.

Many thanks for the updated info.
