Almost made a complete fool of myself by saying this car hadn't previously been discussed on this forum as it didn't show up when I ran a search with the chassis number (and still doesn't, so I clearly don't know what I'm doing...)

Of course it's very well known to us as it's Paul Cain's, although that thread apparently went suddenly dark a few weeks ago, so I may not be the only one who isn't aware:

    https://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/threads/1985-400i-5-spd-long-overdue-12k-service.668183/page-8

Looks fabulous, and bidding is very strong even with a day to go.

The vagaries of the search function.

Thought I'd seen somewhere to search by the last 5, but that brings up nothing, not even this thread where it's hiding in the subject line.

    Adding a "0" - 054913 - brings up the other thread.

    As does the full VIN.

    So there you go...

    Good day Rob.

The reason it does not show up with the 5 digit chassis number is because there was not one added to the previous threads... just six digits or the VIN. The search function is somewhat precise in that it looks for a match between white space characters only so a 5 digit chassis number will not be found in any posts that have the full VIN or a 6 digit chassis number.

In threads I start, I always include the 5 digit chassis number and the VIN if applicable and/or known. For those threads that I do not start, I simply add any relevant details on the car to existing threads. In this current thread of yours, you reference the other thread and so there is continuity in the car's info and history.

    Cheers,

    Sam

Beautiful car but that paint is so thin your basically polishing primer. Would figure refinishing which is a shame as the originality and miles are key selling points. Its BAT so I am sure it will anyway.

Great seller and it does look amazing!!

    Ugh, $121k.

Not a terrible number of course, but I was rooting for $140k+, and I bet Paul was hoping for more than that.

    Sorry Paul, that sucks.

Looks like there were 2 other bidders who either left it too late (3 seconds...) or weren't paying attention right at the end.

There was the 412 that went for $185k just a few months ago, seem to recall it had some provenance but not sure.

Looks like several bidders botched their snipes and are now sorry. Beautiful car.

    Congrats on the sale Paul.

I was a little dubious at the two bidders who said they missed out. BaT is designed to avoid sniping by resetting the two minute clock so those two individuals had ample time to submit their bids. I felt the car was worth much more than 121K compared to the 1982 that sold for 132k on 31 March on BaT and is in need of 20k worth of work.

It will not be refinished. The car will return to NY and remain as it is and be driven. Paul was a true gentleman throughout the process. I will post some pics when I go out to pick it up. I could not be happier to have been able to take the torch from Paul and I will make sure she stays every bit as pristine as she is now.
