I have a 400i engine that came with an automatic trans. In the back of the crank there is what looks like a pressed in adapter that locates the flywheel and the spacer that goes out to the flex plate for the torque converter.

My question is do the cars with a standard trans also have this adapter and the pilot bearing goes in it or does it come out and the pilot bearing go it its place?

I’m installing the engine in my 308 and making a custom flywheel and I’m not sure if I should remover this piece and use the pilot bearing to locate the flywheel or leave it….which changes what size hole goes in the center of the flywheel.

    Mark,
You're gonna have to lose that flywheel hub , IPB's show 2 different part #'s for the flywheel depending on tranny used. PM me if you need IPB's/parts desc..

    Thanks Bruce,
I could tell there were 2 different flywheels becasue the one that came with the engine has no provitin for a clutch. I just wasn't sure about the hud....but it sure looked wrong for a clutch set-up. I'll pop it out and see what I have.
