    Hi,

I recently become the owner of a Ferarri 400i. Everything worked fine so far and the car is just a dream. However since Sunday there is a red light next to the gear shift.
The manual says that this indicates Generators charge ( # 58 in the manual overview page ). Unfortunatly it goes on when I park the car and turn off the engine. Then it seems to do something which requires power so the only way to avoid an empty battery is to take of the cables.

Does anyone know what this red light is supposed to charge and what kind of generator is running?
    Thanks for your help.

    regards Kai

"generator" is a historical mis-translation -- that's actually the alternator(s) warning light(s). There's actually two bulbs inside on your 400i -- one for each of your two alternators (upper and lower).

The real function of the alternator warning light is to detect a broken drive belt, but staying "on" when the key is "off" indicates (with a 99% chance) that you have a problem with the electric components inside one of the alternators.

By the description #, do you have a Series I 400i ('79-'82)? If you post over in the 365/400/412, some Series I owners could give you some hindsight.
