My mechanic is working on a 400I and asked me to post a thread. His computer is down, and his amazing fixit skills are limited to sportscars. So, here is his question.

The vehicle is a 1983 400I and he was wondering what type of ignition wires can be used on the vehicle. The car came with CAVIS 400 ignition system; magneti marreli.

Any suggestions welcome. He is in the middle of a full rebuild on the engine.

From the "not blowing up the internals of the ingition electronics" view, I believe as long as you roughly match the Ohms/length value of the new wires to the old wires (and use the stock "resistor" or "non-resistor" spark plug -- whatever is specified for your model) there's no additional risk, and it should operate OK.

Do you have a rough Ohms/length value measured from your old set or a stock 400i set?

(Are these so expensive that you need to find an alternate? Have you priced a stock set from the FerrariUK/Maranello C website?)

    Try Kingsborne for new wires.
They can supply solid or spiral wound copper core high quality wire, with resistor or non-resistor sparkplug extensions. Also heavy duty distributor end rubber boots, and high temp wire cover material in various colors.

I bought a set for my Boxer for about $200, and couldn't be more pleased with the quality and workmanship.
