Is anyone having trouble finding key blanks for their 400i? My primary key got twisted and was about to break (I had a spare at home), but I was in a bit of a panic and ordered one from Dennis McCain, where I got my original spare. He charged a leg and two arms for the blank as it was the last one he had.

If Dennis was correct that they were now "unobtanium", I was sure I could find a way to have a run of several made. Instead I found a good reliable source. I received several blanks the next day and had one made for my car and it works.

The "original" key was a Nieman, made in Germany. I will post pictures of both sides of one of the new blanks.

If anyone is in need of one of these blank I will send one or more to you for $20/blank postage included. Send PM or more reliably an email to <[email protected]>.

It's been years since I had a bunch of spares made but I know that an Audi blank purchased from a run of the mill locksmith works for the ignition and door locks. It was no more expensive than any other key blank at the time.

I have a 365GT 2+2 and the modern replacement for the Neiman's key is the ILCO Canada NE8. It runs about $3.00 and most locksmiths have it or can get it.

    Ken,
Is that Dominion Lock Co. of Montreal, Can.? I'd have to say they're the best Neiman look alike I've seen.
Last year about this time Xavier400i posted here w/Neiman blanks for sale (orig. $60.USD) I grabbed 2 of them @ $50. ea., don't know if he had more. Rec'd them from Thailand, then sent them back to http://keysforclassics.com/ to have them cut to code (the 4 #'s on your key) rather than duplicate. They were good to work with + fine quality, also carry Silca keys if Italian means anything.
These guys http://key-men.com/shopping/show_cat.php carry Neiman but didn't have the exact handle shape as our keys but is a good source for others.

The keys I got from locksmith are not ILCO but he used the ILCO number to find them. They are marked "DL" for the manufacturer with the same NE8 designation. He sells keys blank or cut for $4.

Here is a picture of my ilco Canada NE8 keys. For those of you in the Chicago area I use Ashland Lock (Ashland just North of Fullerton). They have several guys who are car and motorcycle people who will take the time to find the correct keys and are very helpful.

I just looked at the picture rather than the key; the picture is clearer than the real thing! Yes, it is Dominion Lock of Montreal Canada.
