Hello, I,m Pete from Holland. I spotted a fair looking 400i '80 or 81 build at the MECC Interclassics 01-11-2008 (Holland) German car originally from CH. Serial number believed to be 52675. Two owner's only. I'm seriously interested in this seemingly spotless car and plan a testdrive at the end of the month. Recent Top-end rebuild. average mileage. Any clue's Regards, Pete
Pete, If you're talking about that silver manual shift 400 that was in the main (parts and model car) hall, then I strongly advise you talk to Alex de Moser of VSOC (www.vsoc.nl). I believe he knows this car as apparently it used to belong to a customer of his. Apparently that particular customer has had a fair share of all kinds of trouble with the car and ended up selling it. The new owner had it repainted and put it up for sale for a rather high price (around 45.000 euro was it??) I COULD of course be mistaking. Alex and I only talked very briefly, so he might as well have been talking about a different 400, but I believe it was this one that he was mentioning. If you're looking for a well-sorted 400 (carbs, manual transmission) - the one that I drove last week is for sale. It belongs to one of the mechanics who works for Dinoservice in Schagen. If you've been to Viva Italia event in Houten, you might have seen it there. The car runs well, has carbs and manual transmission. Interior looks it age, but could no doubt be rejuvenated. I has rather ugly azev rims with 245/45/17 tires on it. Not my taste, but this could easily be sorted by putting some 16 inch repro rims from superformance on it. The guy seems honest, and I have heard good things about him. Might be worth a look. Asking price 28.500 euro. Good luck!! A serial number of 52675 would indicate that it was built around 1984 and would have all of the series 2 fittings, such as rectangular ventilation outlets in the front (rather than circular on the top) of the dash, and solenoid operated buttons to open hood, trunk and gas filler cap. John
Thank you Hans for the prompt reply, That is indeed the one, priced around 37 k. Looked very crisp though. I'll contact Alex. Pete
Are you certain about the s/n 52675? According to my database this s/n belongs to a red/cream Mondial QV Coupe in the U.K. Ciao, Lars T.
You could be right, number is not very clear on the foto I made. might as well be 52575. But we're getting closer to the source, rumour has it was white in former live. Peter
Hm, according to my db, 52575 is a red/tan 308 GTS QV in the USA. Any other possibilities? Or maybe do you know the car´s plates? Ciao, Lars T.
