Kurt, you may also find a vapor can under your battery tray, we do not have emissions testing here in Florida, so all these component's from my car now live in a plastic tub. Gary Image Unavailable, Please Login
Thanks for posting those DC Johnson Installation Instructions Gary (I've got some photos from here showing another brand ECU for this modification to be "Neutronics" on a euro 328). I was going to ask you if there was any recommendation/restriction/instruction for where to mount the resistor, but your photo indicates that they weren't too worried about it Is it attached (for example, with adhesive) or is it just laying there (I don't see any screw on the one mounting tab showing)? It is the kind of high-power-dissipating resistor that implies mounting it to something fairly thermally conductive would be a good thing.
And...this was how I "repaired" the Oxy sensors, after removing the cats... Gary Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Steve...I had already removed the screw in the corner before I took the pic...it was high on the firewall above the batt, you would not have seen it until you put your ear on the batt cables. I could scan/email you a better copy of the sheet if you want... PS: Steve...from many of your posts you are VERY GOOD at these issues...do you want the parts ? Gary
That makes more sense (and would be a reasonable choice for location). Thanks for the offer, but what you posted is legible enough. No, I won't need the parts (thank goodness ), but they could be of valuable to some other 400i/412i Owner needing to restore a US-legal configuration.
Gary: see my pics of where I believe the resistors are for both sides of engine Lambda controls and looks like someone made a nice plate with relay. I didn't see the ecu in my glove box only the factory relay board unless I have to remove it to access ecu. I'm hoping to completely remove since it seems redundant and not necessary. I still don't know if this will have any positive effect on my underlying iss though Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Kurt...follow the wiring diagram, that should lead you to wherever they are hiding the ECU, the components could be anywhere. Any wiring that is not OEM needs to have a really good reason to be there. Gary
Finally got some time to troubleshoot and here's where I am: 0) Removing all Lamda add ons because the system is already dead. Bringing back to k tronic. 1) I have spark 2) I replaced all relays with new 3) Low fuel pressure from fuel distributors on both banks (55PSI Driver, 68PSI Pass) 4) WUR checks good cold and warm flows 5) Driver fuel pump unusually loud but pumps strong, Pass fuel pump is quiet and strong. 6) Smoke checked all vacuum lines and no leaks. I feel that both fuel distributors need to be rebuilt. Can anyone recommend a company that can do this? I've called a company in CA and here's the prices to rebuild: 1) $599 Ea fuel distributor 2) $225 Ea WUR. Many thanks - Kurt
http://www.cisflowtech.com/ (Larry Fletcher) -- wouldn't surprise me if that company in CA sends them to him
I agree with Steve, Larry knows EVERYTHING about these systems, I had several great phone calls 2-3 yrs ago with him helping me diag my non-running 400i when I first bought it. He has flow bench/test equip to rebuild your units, and will talk you thru initial setup and tune. Gary
What happened to this car? It is a shame when owners do not report back on the progress and findings.
