    Hi there,
yesterday I was trying to mount a new rear underpanel. But to do so I needed to remove the exhaust. It was still in a pretty good shape, being 34 years old. But I was thinking, should I replace the catalysts? What are the consequences when I do that, and where can I find parts to replace them with (preferably in Europe). And If I would keep the catalysts, are they still OK? Thanks for the advice!

    Hi Kris.

Years ago I had the cats on my 78gts rebuilt with good luck. I had a local guy send them off for a few days and they came back rebuilt.

The rebuilder had cut off the end of the muffler, removed the damaged matrix, installed a replacement matrix, re-welded everything and returned it to the local guy.

About $300 at the time IIRC.

I have a 78 GTS and just removed the cats as I do not need them for emissions. I would remove them if you can as they generate a lot of heat. I also noticed that your headers are not wrapped (to control heat) which were done on US spec cars with cats. Without the wrap and with the cats your trunk and engine compartment will be extremely hot.I would also ceramic coat the headers as this will reduce the heat from the headers.
