I was visiting Mr Pappalardo in the mid-70s and this car was in his garage, just arrived as I recall. He lived in Batavia, NY at the time. Being ever the gentleman, he showed me around it, telling a bit about it's history - sorry, I don't recall all of it. But, here's my question: Was it refinished in red after he purchased it? When I was running tech inspection at Watkins in the 80s, I'm pretty sure he showed up in either this car or one similar but finished in red. As busy as I was - I had to inspect every car before it went on the track - I never got a chance to chat with him. So, can anyone help and revise my memories? Bob Z.

... I believe these were full 9.5" x 15" Front and 12.5" x 15" Rear P4 wheels not just P4 "style" tipo 604 wheels in P3 size 5.5" x 15" Front and 7" x 15" Rear that the other 412P cars are said to have worn. Image Unavailable, Please Login

It really looks so much better to my eyes with the racing roundels & numbers... They complete the car... Thanks for the period pics! BTW the headlights look darker in the Paris 100KM pics. I also prefer them that way although it may only be an optical illusion..
I'm not certain about this but because it rained in the race the narrower blue P3 5.5" x 15" Front and 7" x 15" Rear wheels were used instead of the much wider gold P4 wheels.
Thank you for those details miurasv! When photographed much earlier in Los Angeles the car had darker blue wheels. Maybe the different colors were so the wheels didn't get mixed up in the heat of battle...
0854 had a spare P3 wheel in blue at Spa while wearing gold P4 style wheels. Also used the P3 wheels at Spa. See last pic. Pictures by Eric della Faille and Jean Charles Martha. No, the wheels were blue because one of the other competitors was always Pinching the wheels from Swaters
Amazing shots. Thanks! Thanks as well to everyone who has contributed PB or historical shots recently. What a glorious machine.
I took the first two pictures at PB very early in the morning. The last two i took them on Thursday. What a car. And the music from its exhaust.... Best, Nicolás. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
I remember Swaters saw the car back for the first time in yellow in 1997 for the 50th anniversary of Ferrari in Italy and it's there that he told that he painted the wheels blue so he could recognize them if his wheels were stolen.
The P3 wheels on 0850 must be P4 wheels wide as the rear tires are 12" wide. The tire on the blue P3 style spare wheel is 9.2" wide. The theory about using the much narrower P3 wheels in the rain at Spa 1967 must be wrong. Classic Driver Picture. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
