I've been looking for a well made subtle dress watch that isn't as large or heavy as the ones I have now.
I never knew an Air King existed in the Rolex line. At 34mm the size seems right. They look pretty simple and don't appear to be real flashy which would fit the bill.

Any thoughts on this model? Any idea what I should pay for one?

If you have another suggestion please help out and let me know.

    Thanks in advance.

Another Rolex to consider is the original Explorer (different from the Explorer II).
It is the next size up at 39mm.
Also a simple, clean looking watch with no date window on it.

It has more of a following than the Air King, I think.
And, nowadays, a 39mm watch is still not on the large side.

Any feeling for Air King or Explorer prices?

The original explorer 1's (6610's and that era) are the same size as the Air King. I should think you could get a vintage Air King in good shape for under $1500. I think the new ones which are larger, will be in the $2500-$3K range.

The old Air Kings did not have the chronometer rate movements - notice the dial reads "precision" and not "superlative chronometer".

The original Explorer's were chronometers, so a step above the Air King.

With that said - the Air King will definitely be a great daily wear watch, will hold it's value pretty well, and will be hard to beat for the price.

For a low key watch in the general price range, check out the Omega Seamaster's with Co-axial movements.

I wear my Air King almost every day, it has been a comfortable and durable piece. New retail was $5050.00 they covered the 6% sales tax on the sale. I bet - 10% is reasonable.

The Rolex Date is a 34mm variant. The AirKing is Time Only, Date has the date and apeture window.
