hello all, I plan on purchasing a 06 430 coupe within the next few weeks and was worried that with the near roll out of the new 458 the 430 will take a huge dump in value. Any opinions or predictions on 430 prices will be greatly appreciated from you Ferrari experts!!
this is the car i was thinking about http://www.motorcarsofhollywood.com/detail-2006-ferrari-f430-used-5485475.html 125k most likely selling price...good or bad deal?
Regarding 458 - As has always occurred, some affect, but not enough to worry about at present prices. A PPI always a good idea, but this looks like a fair deal. Best
Disclaimer: your post is not currently being answered by an expert I am barely qualified to respond to fchat posts, but have been watching and discussing 430s a lot recently, so I thought Id weigh in . the F430 will depreciate.... BP stock has been hammered recently, its a much better investment than a 430.... but nowhere near as fun which is why I am wiring funds tomorrow on a 2006 F430 Spider (PPI came back squeaky clean, so deal should close tomorrow barring any unforeseen issues, Im pumped . just a little update for those that have been following my little search and providing a ridiculous amount of good advice- thank you all) If you have grave reservations about depreciation, I would consider other cars or perhaps a less expensive f-car. I have come to terms with depreciation as a fact of ownership and decided to take the plunge I know it will be worth less next week than what I paid this week, but I plan to drive it and enjoy the hell out of it on the way down. On the one hand, there has never been a better time to get a 430 (well, maybe prices were better / supply was slightly better a couple months ago, but relatively speaking, its still a buyers market right now just go with that buyers market statement, I am buying a Spider the week before Memorial Day and need to say buyers market a bunch of times to help me sleep at night). On the other hand, the car has been depreciating significantly, especially over the last 18 months, but it seems to have stabilized a bit over the last couple months (not appreciating, but losing value more slowly- mostly because the economy caused a lot of the big drop and now theres less uncertainty, so exotic toy prices are stabilizing), but the 430 will continue its downward trend at a not insignificant rate going forward- embracing the dream means embracing depreciation . unfortunately. Speculation varies on how much the 458 will impact the 430 values... ask 3 people on this board and you are likely to get 4 different opinions! Search your question on this board and there are plenty of opinions expressed. I am of the school of thought that the 458 market will be pretty tight and wont significantly impact 430 values until a large number of 458s are trading in the used market. Until then, I think the 430 will continue a normal decline in value . maybe $10-20k per year. The optimist in me wants to believe 458s will be very expensive once fully optioned and leave the 430 as a cheaper entry point, thus protecting value because the 458 wont be as accessible, but I think thats the part of my brain responsible for initiating a rather large wire transfer tomorrow morning expressing that point of view Nonetheless, even the realist in me doesnt see the 458 having a monstrous impact on the 430 values- a new model coming out will put some pressure on prices, but I dont agree with those predicting Armageddon (likely owning one by this time tomorrow, so definitely a biased opinion) Would love to hear other peoples thoughts .
Typically models spike prior and during the new intro as the new one is more expensive and in great demand. You've better off finding a 5K mile car as the one you mention is higher mileage relatively speaking.
The 430 will continue to lose value. The depreciation may have slowed a bit recently. Asking prices aren't that much different than when I bought 6 months ago. Find a car you like and make an offer. Purchase and drive. Do not concern yourself with depreciation.
+1 Purchased low mile / right optioned car for me couple months ago... After watching market for many months. Prices will be where ever you stay focused on... Keep looking at sub 130k cars, and they will all compare equally to a point... Focus on 160k, they fit in another group... 180-200k. Yet another level of vehicle! All depends on you... What you think you want to spend... And what sacrifices you are willing to make. I wanted the 09 spider with 100 miles, but I wouldn't spend the extra 50k above what I paid for my 2300 mile December 07. Just as there are guys dreaming of my 07, they will choose to save another 50k and go to the 05 with miles.... Fact, your first FCoA car meet with other owners... None of that will matter! http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=284587 The 458 will not affect me or my current 07's value (to me anyone) as the price of the 458 is currently more than I think I would bring myself to pay for a car. I think the 430 prices will stabilize in value... And if they don't.... Well...... Oh well... I can't wash my 15k shares of ford stock you know...
By the car because you want one and can afford it. Worrying about depreciation is like worrying about the price of gold or a stock. A Ferrari is none of that. It's like a throughbred race horse -- beautiful, spendid, fast, and exciting while being at the same time impractical, useless, tempermental, and expensive. You buy a race horse because you appreciate what it is and can afford to take the hit. Same goes for a Ferrari. The money that will leave your pocket from owning one could far outweigh the depreciation. Buy it because you've earned it and you love it. Otherwise, stick with a Merc.
Then don't worry about what you can't control (IE Depreciation) It is an F-car not an investment and the sooner you come to realize that a 430 is not a Dino, you will love the hell out of it! Best of luck!
Thanks guys, I know its not a investment, I guess the purpose of the original question if there will be more than normal depreciation due to the release of a new model. Anyhow it doesnt matter lol I think im going to get a 430 regardless.....the question is just which one. The original black one I included in the link- does anyone have history on that car?
I doubt you will get it for less than that but I have been known to be wrong from time to time. Seems like a reasonable price.
