I would appreciate the feedback of those of you who use the 430 as a DD. How practical is it/has it been? How have your cars been holding up? Have you given up on the idea over time?

    Thank you all in advance.

I thought I'd only drive on weekends or special occasions. My BMW m6 was a great daily driver. This would be different...right? So I started driving after getting home from work. Then only on sunny days. I find myself coming up with any excuse to drive. Now I'm happy to go out for milk, fill the tank. You get the idea. I cannot understand how some can garage this car. I suppose having multiple ferraris might distribute the mileage. This is the only explanation I can rationalize. Mine is becoming a daily driver. It is an addiction.

    no garage queen for me!
If I had a different proffesion like a lawyer or accountant I would use my fcar as DD. For now I use it even to get any grocery on weekends or after work.

Be glad you are not a lawyer or accountant, as then for sure you could not use the Ferrari as a DD; your clients would think you're ripping them off!

I could not agree more with previous comments. My 'addiction' began the same way. Any excuse whatsoever to put rubber on the road. Honey, you don't want to hike in the park behind the house...let me drive you to the park half an hour from here... it's so much...much..more..farther.??? Trader Joe's babe? You bet you need that yogurt..Let's go.

It's pathetic really. An addiction of some sort I'm sure. Yoga class Saturday 8am...why sure Doll, I'll wait in the car.

Doesn't sound logical to me....but hell sure is fun. Drive 'em if you've got 'em.
That's what they're for. I've met guys who've owned classic Fcars for ten years and still have the gas in them from the day of purchase. Might be right for them..just not for me.

An attendant said to me the other day at a petrol station "some way to get carton of milk" when I dropped in the 430.

I used mine as a daily driver. I put on 24,000 smiles in under 2 years. I never had a problem. The only problem with the F430 is the low profile tires and pot holes! I changed to run-flats and installed a tire monitor.
Regarding occupation, I am a contractor and I still take it to construction sites, but not in the dirt.
    Use it!!!

In my opinion, using any Ferrari as a daily driver can be a bit of a slippery slope. I agree that its a passion and it begs to be driven but at the same time, if any of you are like me, you want to maintain its beauty as long as you can. Using it as a daily driver can and will increase the signs of age. Be it door dings, rock chips, sun bleaching, etc, it will add up over time. Then there's the problems that come with a very low profile vehicle. You may be on a strech of uncharted road and run accross a large irregularity in the road that will inevitably cause you to bottom our some part of the car. I hate that sound of dragging the nose along the threshold on a street corner......makes me cringe.

With all that said, by no means do I think any of these cars should be garage queens, I'm just trying to give my 2 cents.

My happy medium seems to be somewhere around 3K to 4K miles per year.

I wouldn't say that this will happen irregardless. Door dings from supermarket parking lots wouldn't exist if you didn't use the car for that purpose.

I'm not saying don't drive it, I'm saying 150 miles of open road driving would very likely result in less wear and tear than ten 15 mile trips to and from the grocery store.

oh com 'on guys life is short, I doubt most of you are 65 with your first Ferrari and if you have been this succcesful so far, you are likely to repeat it,and if you are 65 Life is already potentially too short .....

once you are in the elements anything can happen.. I know a guy who drives his ferrari 2k miles a year and has accidently caused more damage to it than someone else who daily drive their car.. anything can happen at any time..

door dings are not an issue it's 50 bucks a ding to remove them.

Door dings, trouble finding parking spots???

If you don't have a handicap permit then you're not living life fun enough. Go out and venture life like a man, get hurt and a permit will allow you to drive the car more.

Parking spots are a hot commodity in Southern California.

Bottom line, as much as it hurts to say this, to answer the original question in this string, in my opinion, a Ferrari is just not a practical daily driver. Perfect example, show me how to take a buddy golfing in a 360/430.

by you logic then practical is a SUV, and anything smaller is not practical..

yes the car is a fine DD.. many people DD the car.. no worries..

if you need a lot of space then OBVIOUSLY a larger car is a better idea.

Daily driver....sure. Practical daily driver.....no, unless maybe you have no infants/children, never buy more than 3 bags of groceries at a time, never need to take more than one person in the car with you and never take another golfing. In that case, you've found your daily driver.

I'm not sure how you made the leap to an SUV. I can fit 4 sets of clubs and 4 occupants in my M5. Maybe even 5 if we want to get friendly.

I reckon I've got the drop on using the 430 as a DD.....the guy who owned it before me did 1780 miles in exactly 2 years and then I bought it.

He still lost big time despite obviously not driving it (perhaps in order to save on resale value which didn't work) and the advantage went to me as I drive it pretty much every few days.

I'm up to where the car's mileage should have been for a car of that age so that's been a huge bonus for me because he didn't use it as a DD.

    Use them!

So do you play Golf daily?

I understand your point and that's why I love Porsche, the only other alternative.

Thank you all for your insights. After reading about vehicle maintenance here, my concern is (was , maybe) how the cars hold up or need extra work. I mean daily, for all things driver, work, errands, church...

It looks like they do pretty well and that the modern Ferrari can "take it" pretty well.
