A buddy (who happens to be a photographer) was over my house the other night. We pulled the 430 out and he took some night shots (with the head lights on). After about 20 minutes, we were done and when I went to put it back in the garage there wasn't enough juice left to start. I didn't think it was a big deal, so we just pushed it into the garage.

Last night I disconnected the battery (using the cutoff switch in the front boot), put a charger on it (medium/6amp), and this morning the charger said it was fully charged. I reconnected the battery and turned the ignition on. Immediately it gave a X on the digital readout where it'd normally say 'Check OK'. It was also cycling through a weird warning icon I hadn't seen before. It looked like a 'Top Off' warning you'd get for a targa or something. It definitely wasn't the front boot ajar, or engine hatch ajar warning. Same style, but the piece in the center on the roof was open. This icon isn't in the owners manual.. any idea what it is?

I'll pull the codes from the car in a little bit, was just curious if anyone else experienced this after having a dead battery or disconnecting their good battery.

ps: i drove the car into work this morning with the warning light, it seemed to start/run fine.

Just an update: I connected up my ODBII scanner and it says there are no codes. I erased everything anyway, just to make sure. Turned the ignition back on, and the X and 'top off' icon are still there...... weird...

    Hi Mike,

Everytime you disconnect the battery, the system has to be reset. There's a cycle that you have to do, (it's been posted here before), do a search. It should not be an issue :) so don't worry too much.

    Hope this helps.

Battery could be on the tail ends of its life?

Hmm, I'll search for that. The manual didn't say anything about a cycle after the battery is disconnected. Or perhaps I fail at reading... thanks! :D

Maybe cycle is a wrong word to use but basically the car needs to relearn the parameters during start up for about 15mins. I usually shut off the engine after 15-20mins then put ignition to on and wait for the OK sign to light up then start the engine. :) then off I go :D

I tried disconnect and reconnecting the battery multiple times today, using the sequence described in the manual and in a few threads here on fchat. It behaved the same each time, so I stopped by the dealer on the way into work this morning. A couple of the mechanics checked it out and verified the weirdness. They said they hadn't seen the X on the dash except when it was a complete instrument cluster failure, but it had always stayed an X. Mine shows the X then cycles through the driving mode, a TPMS warning (been happening since I bought the car), and back to the X.

I'm going to leave the car with them on monday and they said they can try to reload some of the software and try to fix it. /fingers crossed!

This just might be the excuse I needed to trade her in for a 599.... too bad the 458's are so hard to come by rite now!

Just an update: FoSV was able to fix the problem by reloading some software (i'm assuming by reflashing the ECU(s)). Apparently something went haywire when the battery was dead and was recharged. Good as new now....... the 599 itch is still there though.... too bad the 458's are still so rare. :p

When they say cycle they mean a driving sequence not a power cycle. example - let it idle for 5 minutes, drive on freeway for 20 mins, etc
