Hi, I was recently offered a complete engine and transmission from a 430 Challenge car with below 10k miles. The guy knows I have dismantled several 360 and contacted me to see if I wanted to buy this and try to resell. The problem is you don’t see these things sell very often so I don’t want to go into a deal uninformed. Trying to research I found one engine that sold for around $28k and a transmission that sold around $13.5k. But little else to go on. Do any of you 430 Challenge guys have any idea on the value of thi# setup? Thanks for any help.

Without history the only way would be to get it fully inspected, don't forgot they are rebuilt much more frequently than on road going cars. Absolute minimum would be a compression test and possibly bore scope inspection.. I personally wouldn't want to chance it.... I'm sure other guys will chime in with rebuilt mileages..

Ok, assume it is in excellent condition, perfect compression and leak down numbers. What would be the rough going market? I obviously have to come in a bit below the low end to make sure its worth my effort. I just don’t want to hang my self on this trying to help someone out.

Do you know if either the motor or transmission have ever been rebuilt? If the motor was done recently, would want to additionally see Dyno results. If you are going through the effort to replace either, you would not put a motor or transmission in with 10k miles into a challenge car especially if you were racing. I recently replaced my transmission with one that was newly rebuilt for $9k. Brand new 430 crate transmissions have sold in the mid teens and are now hard to find. If the motor has never been opened, would price it as a donor as I would rebuild before installation. Estimate low teens.
