Just talked with Rob, he's out at TMS and says that the 430 Challenge is getting some track time at the SCCA races today (friday) (like, real soon!) and the 360 Challenge will be running in his race group Saturday and Sunday.

Just a heads-up if you want to see/hear these cars run. He said the 430 should be on track somewhere around 1-2ish

Which track? Please tell me it's not on that 1.1 mile excuse of a road course. You know the one; With the two U turns and the chicane in between.

Why couldn't they have built a decent road course at that wonderful facility?

Heck no, we run the full roval, which is 2.2 miles. I actually really enjoy the course. Good combo of high speeds and technical turns.

The 430 Challenge was just running today. The 360 Challenge will be running T1 Saturday and Sunday. We are Group 6 and to the best of my estimate we will qualify no earlier than 9:30am and race should be no earlier than 3:30pm. I recommend watching the race if anything. 45 minutes long and our group includes my T3 class which is the slowest (2 RX8's and a Audi tt), T2 (BMW M3's, Dodge Neon ACR's, and STi), T1 (Z06, Viper, and 360 C), and the fastest cars are GT1 (Which are basically Trans Am tube frame high HP). 25+ cars in the group and will be fun to watch. I don't know the 360 C driver, but I think they are new and just getting some door to door experience in prep for the Challenge series. Driver wasn't bad, but they have room to improve on the technical parts. Nothing like those dang Ferraris holding up a RX8 under braking and in the turns. :p We would come on the oval together and they would be 1/4 mile up by the end. :)

Ticket table outside South tunnel gate (next to big mobile home looking building). $10 maybe to get in. Park through tunnel on infield, then walk around. I don't think any stand access. Best place to watch is bleachers at kink.

    $10 for a full weekend..

Well worth it, I went a few years back.. Watching the Spec Miata race that weekend was worth the obsessive heat we faced..

Which turns do you find technical? The entry/exit to and from the infield from the oval can be tricky, but that's about it. The chicane on the oval is also a challenge given the speed. But three fun turns over 2.2 miles isn't that exciting. The infield, was too flat and too symetrical. The first half and second half are like mirror images of each other. Maybe I just feel spoiled by MSR.

You nailed it, NASCAR 1/2 on apron and infield entry and exit I can get seconds on average Joe. Actually, more spread in times from front to middle to back of pack at TMS than many other tracks because so many get it wrong. Actually a 4th place would be end of infield straight coming back around. Called sucker turns, they sucker you in too hot then you push around and I've got advantage by a second each place. Downside is I can get my rear hit from slow in - fast out.

Yes, SM is and will be the best race of the weekend, any weekend. They are first group, so will race right before lunch each day. Around 11am.

    Hey Rob,

Great work on both Saturday and Sunday in the RX8!

I had the chance to race in the Enduro race on Friday with the F430. According to the timing and scoring the 1984 RX7 I was co-driving in finished well ahead of it :) You know I believe they had the car, but the driving of the #93 RX7 was simply too much!

Seriously though, the F430 was fantastic, but it had a problem mid-race I think with a slipping clutch, which put it in the pits for a good 45 minutes. I can hear my spotter now "Michael, the Ferrari is 400 ft behind you <flash of color and noise> ...its gone."

I figure the 430 was just pacticing or some such. I managed to win my class, (SM) come in 6th OA and was beat only by Spec Racer Fords. I beat a Ferrari in a Miata! nanananananananana!

Seriosly, I had to really watch my mirrors, as the damn thing would go by me on the straight, coming out of nowhere!

Then I shredded my car in the SM National sprint races.
