Oil is about 1500 miles old, I have no idea when anything else was done. Ive owned the car for about 1,000 miles. Heres the list I was quoted from the local ferrari dealer... thanks for any suggestions.

If those prices don't exemplify the "Ferrari tax", I don't know what does.

as a guide, the oil and filter change materials can cost up to about $150-$250, so a normal shop ought to be able to quote you a change for $400 (there are a lot of fiddly things to deal with on this car for an oil change, 2 spots, the flat floor removal etc - its best done on a lift).

thats what i use as a litmus test question.

the dealer in houston quoted me $1600.......driver's source did it for $400.... fwiw.

I agree with all their services but none of their prices, that is beyond excessive.

For reference, I pay (roughly) the following for scheduled maintenance with an independent: 1 year which includes oil, brake fluid plus inspections about 500. 2 year which includes all fluids. etc. about 1200. Note: I change air and cabin filters based on mileage instead of time. 10 year/30K I paid 2090 which included all the two year plus filters, spark plugs and belt. This was a "special". Might be more like 2500. now. My car is a stick which may be a little cheaper. I bought it new 8/2005.

Of course if you want to tour the factory at some point paying those prices might be worth it...

I emailed a another service center in Charlotte for quotes on these services... they replied back with “what year is it” then disapeared. I rather overpay than deal with that honestly.

I think the main thing to realize is if you don't want to pay the dealer prices you had either hope you have a dependable reliable independant in your area or be able to perform the work yourself. Luckily on these cars indi's can perform much of the work, but you get into some of the newer cars with DCT they can't even get the parts for them since Getrag has some sorta deal with the factory. So food for thought if your contemplating stepping up to a 458 California or FF.

What are your guys thoughts on diy as far as resale? I am lucky in SoCal to have so many options, one is a buddy who's friend works for ferrari. I'm sure he can hook it up, but I don't have the "I just paid 3k for it to be done at Ferrari" service record. I know some people out there like to see only services at Ferrari, but that's about as close as it gets for a fraction of the cost. Like the OP, I just hit 33k. I was waiting for the yearly to do the stuff, but did the spark plugs when I had to replace the calve cover gaskets last month. Plan on doing the air filters, oil and belt. Might do the f1 as well.

It really seems to depend on the person how they feel about self maintainance. Me personally so long as they have the receipt for the parts and the car passes ppi I'm ok with self maintainance and respect someone for doing a lot of the work themselves. We have to remember at the end of the day these are just cars.

I'm going with DIY because I want the job done right. I have great dealer service records for my 07 but I've already corrected short cuts previous mechanics took.

There are some things I won't attempt and can't do (anything that requires an SD2 or 3) but I will do my best to self diagnose and repair when possible and hopefully, with the help of so many great people here, will be successful more times than not.

Someone once told me, there is a cowboy for every saddle.

At 30K I highly recommend doing an F1 Fluid Bleed, Flush and System Recalibration.

Not impossible but I wonder how they would warranty the work unless they somehow are certified thru Getrag. I think on the DCT I’ll rely on the dealer for now since they have full support from Getrag and the parts and labor have factory warranty

As long as under warranty I agree... Ferrari will not fix those transmissions..... only replace. Cost is about $27k to replace

I don’t know where you are getting your information but some of it is dated and some of it is just plain wrong. There are plenty of techs that can now disassemble the DCT and replace the speed sensors that are prone to failing and it cost between 6k and 8k for the repair. If you need to have a DCT replaced it costs closer to 40k with labor at Ferrari. This topic has been covered to death in the California section with actual Ferrari tech’s commenting and sharing photos of the work involved.

I inquired again and while independents can and do work on many various DCT’s but not the 7DCL750 which is used in the California, 458, F1 and the new Portofino. I think there might be one Alfa Romeo that uses this transmission too but bottom line this is a manuafacturer specific DCT and Ferrari paid lots of money for exclusive use. But hey what do I know, I’ve only been involved in the DCT discussions for a year or so with contact from several Ferrari techs as well as a few indi guys, some of whom are some of the most respected indi’s in the Ferrari culture.

Read..... “ Ferrari “ will not fix...only replace.... I know someone quoted $27k from dealer... not bad info. It here are independent mechanics that can now repair and they warranty their work. Again not giving bad or out dated info. The dealers down here will not repair only replace.

Not sure where you are coming from with the attitude but you can leave that off the chat site... pretty sure we are all on the same team here.
